Hello Folks,

So basically im building a studio from scratch. This is what I want by the end:

2 (or more) XLR Inputs with Phantom
2 (or more) 1/4 Line Inputs
Some form of alternate output/aux to send signals around.
Midi In/Out
Sample Library
Keyboard Midi interface

At the minute I have:

88 Key Digital Piano with Midi in/out/thru and 1/4 Stereo Out
Monitor Speakers with analogue and digital inputs
Guitar and Amp
A computer (more than powerful enough, current with Audigy 4)

So i was thinking of buying something along the lines of:

NI Kontakt 3 - From this I will get all my instruments and sounds, as well as produce voices using the synth.

Small 8/10 Channel USB Mixer - This way I can run aux's of the signals i want, and it gives me plenty of inputs. I will use a SM57 as a mic for the guitar cab/whatever else for now.

USB-Midi interface - This is so I can play full range music from my digital piano into the software. Just something cheap, low enough latency to make it worth buying, but just a no frills attached interface.

25 Key Midi Keyboard - This will include things like pitch/mod wheels and knobs for controlling the parameters on my software synth.

Running it all through Cubase LE.

Does this sound a cost effective way to do it? I was trying to find a USB mixer with MIDI in, but there isnt one in my price range. A lot of these USB Audio interface's are just XLR and Line-ins with 1 stereo output from the software for the main system monitors. It wont allow me to send signals to effects, etc, which I need aux's or configurable outputs for.
I also chose to get a small midi keyboard so I can use the mod/pitch wheel and knobs to make everything easier.

Thanks for reading :)

Ive never found any USB interface capable of doing low enough latency for me to do multisample work effectively. A small Firewire interface will make you much more satisfied in the long run. Your number of inputs are going to be limited by the interface anyways, so I'd skip on the mixer.

Surely USB is fast enough to provide latency under 5ms?
