Good evening:

I am in serious need of a little advice from a knowledgeable source. My post is long but I think you will understand why after reading it.

By way of background, I own a Mix-Plus TDM system (6.0) running through a single processor Mac G-4 using a Digidesign 888 24 (I know, it's ancient but it worked great). I used this system quite happily, and productively, until a few years ago when I had a very serious motorcycle accident. Because I was not expected to live, she who shall not be named (but who is sometimes referred to in polite company as "the ex") assumed that she was moving back into my house since her name was still on the deed. As part of her plans to move in, she and her friends completely disassembled my system and put it into storage to be sold. Unfortunately for her plans, I refused to die, so they ultimately could not sell my system.

After months and months of rehabilitation, I was able to begin playing again. After a year or so, I was able to begin to seriously compose again. Now, two years after the accident, I am probably as recovered as I'll ever be.

Now, my problem. I recently decided to put my system back together and begin to record my compositions again. When I started my my old G-4 computer, I was shocked to find that someone had apparently reformatted my primary drive -- no Pro Tools! "No problem," I thought, "I'll simply reload it from my discs." That done, I began to reassemble the system.

Unfortunately, I discovered that I was unable to get any output from my SCSI drive using Pro-Tools. For that matter, I cannot seem to input anything to Pro Tools either. I ran a Digitest yesterday and both the Mix Core card and the Mix Farm card checked out o.k. I can only assume that the cable running from the hardware to the computer is o.k. because Pro Tools will not open completely until it reads the Digidesign 888 24.

I have tried to work with the demo tapes but when I try to get information on any channel's output it says "n/a" on everything listed (it reads the same on all my music). When I hit the I/O setting tab, I am informed that when last saved, the 888 24 was the input and output hardware but nothing is now reported as the hardware for either input or output.

Folks, I am coming perilously close to violating the maxim "do no harm" in attempting to work around this problem. I need help from someone a LOT more knowledgeable that I in these matters.

I know that this is a long post but I wanted to give whoever replies enough information about the problem so that they can formulate an appropriate response.

Thank you for your patience in reading my tome. And, thank you, in advance, for your help.

<><Peace

wow. I was about to have to bust out the dusty old Mix3 system to help you out. Glad you got it working, and glad you're getting recovered. :)
