hi,
ok let me start off by saying that i know....NOTHING about mic's (or pretty much nothing!). so when i was looking for an instrument mic to plug into my Fostex VF80 (i already have an SM58 for vocals - i've been told that for vocals the SM58 is great) i wasnt too sure what to look for. i've heard that the SM57 is good for instruments, and sure enough the guy at the first of my 2 local music shops said that the SM57 will give me a good recorded instrument sound.
this is when things got a lil' complicated : i went to the second shop and the guy said that well, for live the SM57 is good, but for recording it just won't cut it. he suggested i get the Shure BG, or the SCM 900, 910 or 920 by Nady . so is this guy talking out of his ass, or should i ignore the first guy's comments, or what???
what would you guys suggest for a versitile instument mic, one that i could record acoustic gtrs, elec gtrs, elec bass, maybe drums (but probably not), maybe some brass....etc. that doesnt cost too much? i'm not looking to spend much here...
cheers,
MD
