Greetings and salutations! I am having a little trouble and I am really hoping that someone that has been through this can help me out. I have retired from the live venues and I am now just setting my sights on recording things for posterity sake and so that years from now my kids can look back and go, "oh yeah, we forgot that Dad was THAT much of a dork!" HAHAHA My main area of playing has always been changing up covers, so many times I have needed to record or video how I play something so I can remember it later. So, I am hoping to finally archive most of this stuff.

My big problem is getting everything setup. I have an Allen and Heath mixer that I use live and I absolutely love it, but I know that I have only scratched the surface on what this thing can do. So many buttons!! What I am trying to do is to run the mixer into my MacBook Pro and then use Garage Band (or some other program if you have suggestions!) to record. I am also just wanting to use it as an input device when I record videos and things like that. My problem? I cannot get sound from the mixer to the computer via USB. I can run sound from the computer out to my monitors via the USB (ex. I can get Pandora to play through the monitors.) but I cannot get the sound INTO the computer. I am absolutely sure that it is user error (or ignorance) and it is just a matter of pressing the right combination of buttons on the mixer and assigning the right input device on the computer, but I just can't seem to get there. Any help or tutorials that you guys might have would be GREATLY appreciated! Literally down to what buttons to push. Thanks in advance!!!!

When I go into System Preferences > Sound under Input is says USB audio CODEC. Then under Settings for Selected Device it says "The selected device has no input controls."
