1) For great drum midi sounds, what sound card do you recommend for around $100 (if there is one).

2) I would like to possibly use MOD to make the drum tracks for stuff I record ; does anyone know of any good .wav or instrument files of bass drums, snares, crashes, rides, highhats, toms, or sites where I can get them? I really can't find any good samples at all.

3) For direct recording to a 4tracker, what can get me a great distortion for heavy metal, similair to Metallica, or as close as possible? Very heavy....I heard something from Sansamp is good....anyone know?

Thanks a lot to anyone who can answer some or all of these questions, thank you!

I think if you spend $100 on any sound card it will have fairly good drums but honestly, if you are looking for good drum sounds and can spend $120-$180 you can pick up a used Alesis D4 drum module or a drum machine with a "midi in" and use thier drum sounds.
For the distortion I think that any "heavy metal" distortion pedal will do the job, but you may get alot of unwanted noise. Zoom makes a nice, inexpensive guitar processor that may give you all of the sounds you are looking for (distortion w/ harmonizer/delay)

Stone....whatever processor you choose to obtain your distortion sound, make sure
it has a built in speaker simulator. Whenever you plan to record direct, this is the
way to go. I use a Peavey TubeFex in live situations. It has a built in simulator.
Most units have them these days. Another problem you may run into using a
"thrash" type of distortion is noise. This is a big problem when recording
max distortion due to the high preamp gain levels. When trying products out
listen for the noise level and A/B test them to compare. Of course, a noise gate
effect is a plus if that is built in as well. Good luck...........

Demo the Pod from Line 6. 300$..
More than you want to spend but umm.... Itllmake your amp sound like metallica. I Guarantee it.
It has the rectifier setting (is that mesa boogie) that Metallica uses. Since I bought the pod, I have used it as much for playing live (you wanna sound like metallica dont you?) as I have in the studio on some pretty heavy stuff.
I seem to remember the boss ds1 as being the footpedal of choice among all the metalers in high school.
