Hi

Was wondering of someone could give me a few tips on the mix of some songs i've been working on. Only really recorded my other band which was heavy rock so not sure what to look out for when mixing something different! Any comments would be gratefully recieved!

I listened to "Survive" and enjoyed it a lot. Great songwriting and stellar vocal performance. The mix seemed excellent. It's MySpace so it's difficult to really talk too much about things sonically because of the quality of the audio stream. The only thing that sort of stood out to me was the sound that you were getting out of the piano. It got a little grating at times, but that may have been because of the degredation of audio quality on MySpace. The performances all around were really great.

All in all, I loved it. Incredibly good song.

Thanks very much!! I was worried the Piano sound might not be quite right. Can anyone recommend a decent sounding Piano sample library for PC? Not really sure what I should be doing with the piano sound!

Drumset sounds good. Bass could come down a little, but it's a great part. Piano could have a little less verb IMO to match the feel of the vocal. Vocal's well done and I like the song.

You should post a higher res file. Myspace isn't good for critical listening. Lightningmp3.com takes 320 kbps mp3s.

EDIT: I listened to the first one.

hehe thanks, will do! He'll be happy with that, he's only been playing bass for a few months, he's normally a guitar player.

Sounds good I love piano based music no matter what!! This is really a steller proformence and the piano sounds very realistic. I love your voice you really nailed the vocal profromence on Survive and the song after.

Tell us how you recorded these? You used midi to do the piano you said? What samples are you using? Ive been having good results with The Grand 2 but I really like what im hearing from your virtual pianl :D.

Great tunes im gonna have to add you :D.

thanks! I use Art Vista Virtual Grand Piano for the piano sound, it's got lots of nice presets which I need cause i've only been playing piano for a few months so not sure what i'm doing with it all really! The drums were recorded with a load of cheap mics into a MOTU 24i, and the vocals were done with a Line 6 Toneport UX2 and a cheap Samson vocal mic
