a few newbie songs

Hi, Im just starting to learn how to do some recording. Im working in Sonar2 and struggling with drums and soundfonts. I am also trying to a more realistic guitar sound. It seems like slow going but there is progress being made. I have realized that recording the guitar direct is not the answer. So I have been experimenting with micing my ax2 with a shure 58a beta. I have also experimented with a dr5 which I just got, it shows some promise. I went from a creative audigy to a audiophile 2496 at 24 bit for recording which seems to be an improvement. I hope to be posting something with the new ideas soon as well.

Hi there: I listened to "Weather Channel Local Forecast," because that title just absolutely rules...It's like calling a tune "elevator music, in B." Anyway, I see that most of what you did on this one was done in midi originally, so the tones are pretty much there, right? Honestly, I can't think of anything to gripe about on this recording...considering the source material. It's a nice little piece, and that title fits it to a "T." I'm still laughing.

I listened to a bit of "Practice Recording" too (another winner of a title :D), but it started skipping on the stream (i.e., not your fault)... I'll d/l it for later when I have some time.

After the 2nd or third time around right after the B flat chord Id goto another chord to add varity into another passage

Thanks, I was just messing around trying to see what the dr5 would do and I like the results. I think it makes for a pretty descent backing tool. Definitely easier than try to get drum out of the keyboard for me. Now the problem seems to be that I have to go through my songs and figure out all the rhythm counts and try to dupicate that in the Dr5. YUK!

Glad you got a grin out of the name. I find myself using the weather channel for background music while doing various tasks around the house. And, since I have no life, I also seem to have developed an uncanny ability to know what the weather is going to be clear across the country. Hmmm

Actually I really like some of the jazz grooves they play. Someday I hope to be able to duplicate what I hear. Maybe in the NEXT fifty years, since the first 50 revealed an extreme lack of talent but an unbelievable persistance :)

I kinda like the chords too and Its play by the numbers, just my speed! I actually did a variation on this which had some nice well constructed chord changes and rhythm variations. It came out pretty good but I pushed the wrong thing and away it went.

When I get a descent one put together Ill post a weather channel 2.

By the way Jeff, I really like youre stuff on nowhereradio. How'd you like to sell some of that talent to help out the overly persistant?

Now how can I mic the ax2 to get a fat tone like earl klugh ?
 
wfaraoni, very nice tracks. I like the jazzy sound. Good guit chops as well. I'm with you. A fat jazz tone on the guit would sound great.

enjoyed your idea. Sound like you got your bearings and sailing now... I like that style, I guess I`d call it a "soft carribean" rythym with the percussion too. nice guitar tones.
