Be Careful (single lead)

Who's that stalker following that little girl? hehe... oh, there he is... just a backup singer. Here's a thought... her vocal sounds like
there's a midrange dip on that track... around 1k? Vocal track: Clarity is OK, the low-mids are prominent... (around 500)... could be the mic or mic position... funky hard-knee compression... or EQ

Nice song! Great, easy-going performance. No sweat

(panned lead)

Already, this sounds more open. Though, I'm not sure the hard panned
vocs are going to work all the way through the thing... maybe a less
extreme panning approach (35 % each side or something, then fit the
guitars & stuff into the gaps)

(dry panned acap)

Wow... somebody needs autotune eh... someone who doesn't wear a dress... even occasionally? The one who doesn't carry a purse? Ha...
wow... that doesn't exclude anyone eh? Wow that's beautiful.
When everything comes together in the chorus... haha... jeez MAYBE you
do carry a purse... listen to that totally girly BeeGees falsetto  :D The choruses are amazing... and I don't think she ever drifted off
pitch once.

(wet centered acap)

Sounds warmer... very cool... better mix. IMO the vocs work better
centered on this. Great harmonies, Chris (we're to guess she didn't
explain how to sing those to you...) just your natural harmonizing
ability... beautiful.

Nine thumbs up.... (plus a pinky :D)

i agree with twist that the acapeltya versions just sound like the background was removed....i didnt care much for either......

with the gee tar i liked the single lead version more.....the panned version sounded to folky tie died hippie LtBob-ish.........

I d/l this, this morning before going to work...I knew it was going to be great because it featured "Jaimee" :D :D . Haha, well I wasn't wrong. Man Chris she has improved 10 fold from the first time I heard her..and she was already great then. I run sound for my daughter and her group at church last night..they were so awesome man, i'm so proud. God you got some great talent on your hands here man..good luck:D ..and you aint to shabby ya'self hahaha! Loved it!

I like the cut a cappelo2. It`s unique sounding. Story is real big. A glitch here and there in the harmonies and a note between lines but still it could be edited into a very nice baby girl presentation...

This is still the coolest place on the net. The long weekend was great...I actually mixed 5 songs since Friday...but this is gonna' probably have to be my last post in this thread. If anybody else listens, rest assured we'll read it - this place is too valuable not to.

Joro - Bass is up some; guitar was as standardly tuned as it can be with a 2 year old in the house, lol. I played it out of B. Usually, I'd tune it before tracking, but I wasn't planning on using anything other than vocals until it was too late, lol.

Ped - I owe you (and everybody else) a ton of feedback. Hopefully, the wheel will slow down, but I doubt it. Anyway, thanks for the listen. (again)

powderfinger - Hey Drew - lol... she has her good days and her bad. Mostly, I'm at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to people she hangs out with these days, but when she's in the mood to record, it's a blast. When she's NOT in the mood to record, we don't, lol.

studioviols - she's not old enough yet, lol. But when she's 16, we'll see if we can't make her the first beatnick to grace the A.I. stage, lol. BTW - She's gonna' do a viola track for this tune for the intro and the break - her idea, not mine. Thanks for the listen man.

Joe Recorder - thanks for the opinion. I've changed mine after listening to them back to back today. I'll leave the cool panning for true artists like Lt.Bob and Jamal.

B.SABBATH - thanks for the opinions. The acoustic definitely could have been tracked better - I didn't think I was keeping it, so it got the lo fi treatment, lol. Oh, and you KNOW I love that pdlstl tune... :D - Laugh if you have to, lmao, but I'm glad you linked me to it. I gushed like a groupie. THANKS!!!

kELLY 5150 - I really appreciate the post. Nice. This one was fun for me. Take care.

songbird - thanks...we're in agreement.

Participant - If you work as hard as you critique, you've got a job for life - Oh wait...you work for the USPS; job for life taken care of, lol. DUDE, THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME ON THIS. I'm pretty sure you're right about the vocal treatment...I'm not sure exactly where I cut the vocal, but my current method is to turn up the monitors pretty damned loud and sweep it with a wide Q until the vocal doesn't pierce my eardrums...And there's a pretty big cut in the entire mix that I know IS centered at 1K, so GOOD EARS. Thanks again for the other thing, too... I'll give you the str8 dope when I trust my ears again (i.e., tomorrow) :D

Gidge - I concur. Once the "new" wore off, I liked the normal mix better too. Thanks, man.

freshears - kids rule, eh? I mean, don't get me wrong, they're a total pain in the ass too, lol...but sometimes worth it. Congrats to youi.

Toki - Yeah, the first couple of a capella versions that I uploaded were cleaned up so much that they didn't even sound real...edited out breaths, sync'd up the parts better, etc. It actually kinda' bugged me after a bit, so I just did what others have said it sounds like I did...I hit "MUTE" on all the instruments and just went with a straight mix of the vocal tracks as they were in the session. I may clean it up the a capella version again and just slather the whole thing in huge concerthall reverb and call it done, lol Thanks as always for taking the time.

ANYBODY ELSE - If I don't reply to a post...or listen to anything here for...oh, a month or so, I'm really sorry. No disrespect intended. Take care.

Chris

Joe - lol. congrats.

mark - eat me.

WELL I HAD TIME TO SAY THAT...

You cum funnel!!!! ;)

Wait until I'm on vacation and sloooooowww dial up to post something.

I just can't hit this now :( (or anything else for that matter)

HEY now! ..... :D

You wish you had some of my tie dyed shirts.

Cool song. I really like it and Jaimee sounds great as usual. I listend to the Panned and Single versions and I definately like the single vocal track better. I didn't really care for the reverb. It has a too much of a bathroom sound too it but that might also be the tracking?

I would leave it a single vocal for the verses and just have her double the chorus with your harmonies. Maybe try a plate reverb on the vocals. Great tune, should be pretty cool.

This is killer stuff

Each to his own. I like the last one--the full mix with the instruments. I would like her voice a little more up front in the mix, other than that, no changes are needed.

The a capella with the centre lead vocal is my favourite.

Jaimee's voice is just getting better and better. I hope you both realise how talented she is. This is a top quality performance, really really good.

And Chris' stuff was OK. ;)

Cheers

Here's me NOT posting again

Tex, sloop, alibish...thanks guys. I should mention that I did one more mix and posted it on my singles page, and I guess it's the keeper unless and until somebody wants to send me mando tracks or violin or something, lol.

Thanks again to everybody for helping with this.

NICE!
Man, I know i always make a big deal out of your daughter's voice.... ...this will be no exception:) GREAT vocs!! You aint too damn shabby either. This was a nice listen. Nice use of compression too.

gw/5

You don't post a tune for like months or something, then you post four versions of the same song.  :D

I decided to listen to the new mix instead ;) :)

Jaimee's voice is really maturing in a good way. That was very nice. Mix sounded good too. Back-ups were nice.

Great work! Keep her close....unless she heads to Nashville!
