a BLUE mic for $299 new?!

The BLUE bluebird
I didn't know BLUE made a mic in the $300+ price range
It's usually $349 but they're offering a 50 buck rebate till the end of this year.

Has anyone tried a Bluebird before?
I can't find any mp3's anywhere, but it sure is freaking sexy-looking isn't it?

I'm very interested in this mic, does anyone here have any first-hand expirience with one?

It's a much more versatile version of a Baby Bottle. Used to be $500, looks like they may be phasing them out.

There is some sound samples at studioauditions.com in the jam sessions section. It has quite the low end, I can't tell if it's accurately picking up the low end or if it is coloring the sound with more bass, because the high end sounds a bit muffled. Either way it seems pretty nice.

thanks I can't believe how believable it turned out, I did it all from scratch with some free editing program after googling a pigeon, a turtle, then a belt

One thing that I have noticed that is a little off-topic is that I've compared the Audio Technica AE3000 (200 new, virtually unknown mic) to the AT4040, AT4047, AT4050 and AT4060, and the AE3000 blows all of them out of the water.......I'm confused about this And it's not just that the AE3000 sounds mindblowing, it's just that the AT4040, AT4047, AT4050 and AT4060 all sound like crap (especially vox) on that site. I would take anything you hear on that site with a massive grain of salt if that's the impression all those mics gave you. Many many people have used those mics with fantastic results.

i have to say that that's how my one experience with the bluebird sounded as well.......disappointing and characteristic of all of the "bad" things we think of when we think of "made in china" mics.

this is probably why they're phasing them out. they're priced way more than they sound like they should cost, IMO. still, it might be useful for something.

Oh yeah definitely, I know how great the AT mics can sound,
I just don't know why they sound so bad on that site!

I've learned that one thing you CANNOT trust on the internet is sound clips of microphones. I can make clips that will convince you that Neumann U87's are total crap just by running them into my cheap chinese tube preamp and bumping some spikey eq on the tracks. Sound clips of guitar pedals are the same way. I've heard clips that make a guy think a Bad Monkey is the greatest piece of guitar gear since Paul made his first Super Champ.

The ONLY way to know if a mic is right for you is to take it home and try it live and in living color on your own gear. The small loss I have to absorb by selling the bad ones on ebay after I try them, I just chalk it up as "rental fees" and the price I pay for test driving them for a week or a month while I find the right ones for me. I got lucky and didn't lose a single dollar on the Blue mics I got rid of. Even the folks at EV cannot salvage the Blue's from the heap.....

i have a baby bottle, and have become very acquainted with the lack of high end that may be occurring with the bluebird as well. there are ways around it, but it sounds really sweet if you have a singer with no high range
