a Basic question worth asking and learning (with a tascam porta 02)

Hi, this is probably real easy to fix, please help me!

so i record something on track 1, next, i want to record track 2.

so, i want to be able to listen to track 1 in my headphones, and play over the top to track 2...right?

how come when i'm recording track 2, with track 1 in my headphones, whenever i play, i can't play along to track 1, because any sound i make just blocks out the sound in the headphones..

i hope this makes sense, i really need some help.

same thing happens to me, and i dont know what to do either.

it does..? well at least i know that it's not just my recorder..please, can anyone help us with this problem..?
if i don't know how to fix it, then there's no point having the machine..
