Recording at a higher sample rate definitely takes a toll on my minimal 1gb ram. Is there that big of a difference than recording at 44?

I'm sure I'll get shit for this, but after reading about 50,000 threads on this, the consensus seems to be.......there is a difference. You may or may not notice it. If you do, 48K will probably give you much the same results as 96K, with less storage requirements.

ps- awesome screeen name. :)

Almost every poll I've seen (even recent polls) of full-time professionals puts the sample rate *at the target rate* around 70-80% of the time.

24 bit word? Yes.

High sample rate? If you really feel like it. Or if you're recording dog whistles (as long as every single piece of gear in the chain that will be used after can also replicate those frequencies).

But seriously - If you can't get 44.1kHz to sound *great* then there's absolutely no use to go higher.

I have recently bought the RME Fireface ...I recorded at 44.1 - 16 Bit and it sounds pretty damn F**king amazing ... for some reason when recording using ASIO on Sonar i couldn't get the bit depth to 24 ...so as a result i had to set it to 44.1 - 16 ....

I know i am obviously doing something wrong because i have a P4 3 Ghz cpu, 1 Gig Ram and 250 Gb Sata Hard drive ...
