Hey fender guys,

I might be able to get my hands on a 72 bandmaster head & 4x10 cabinet for a pretty reasonable price. I don't know yet if it is the reverb model or not. Do any of you have exerience with this amp? I've read that there was a run of 70's B-masters with some shitty wiring schematic, but I don't really know what to look for. For that matter, this is a little pre-emptive because I haven't seen or played through it yet. Just want to be a little more knowledgeable when I get there.

While I've got your attention, I'm thinking of retubing the clean channel of my deluxe reverb II because it wusses out at high gain. Right now it's got original tubes in it and the breakup gets kind of muddy at about 8-9. Otherwise, it's a beautiful amp so I don't want to completely change its character either. I'm new to tube replacement. Think it will help? Any tips or suggestions? thanks in advance.

Blackface

If it were me,I'd hunt down a Pre-CBS Blackface, even w/o the reverb they sound better.I've seen several Bandmaster and Bassman Blackface heads in music stores around where I live in real good shape going for between $300 and $400.They don't command as high a price as Twins and Supers, but they've got the same glorious tone.
