Nakatira

That Norwegian Bastard
This is one of my latest recordings, its not the defenite version of this song. as I`m planning a remake in the near future.
But I`m intrested in opinion regarding the sound, especially the drums.
I think I still have a way to go, getting them to sound authentic 70`s.

So tell me what you think.
all answers are apreciated. :)

the song is called; MR.MOONLIGHT.

I'm not qualified to critique the levels etc. But this tune makes me want to jump in and record right now.
Good tune.

Whoa....Nice tones. You got the 70's part nailed, but it sounds recorded much better. Very full. Your voice fits this very well. The music sounds somewhat retro, but has the quality of new stuff.....Very good job.
Man, I'm digging this tune......Just has a really cool vibe. Nice sounds, and you mixed it well. Awesome performance. Shit, no more to add, just good job.

Alright, I'm a huge 70s rock fan so I gotta check this out! Wow, you weren't kidding, you got the 70s going solid here. The instruments all sound great. The effect on the verse really puts you back in time, really groovy. Great job, we need to bring back more 70s rock, keep it up! I'll have to post some of my "70s rock attempts" sometime... and I wasn't even alive in the 70s, don't know why I like it so much, weird huh?

The cymbals/overheads are too loud.
They step all over the groove riff, especially in the intro.

Holy crap. Really cool riff and the verse is right out of the 70's. You have an awesome voice, too. The cymbals are too loud, like Chris says, but the vibe is there. I love the falsetto vocals. The toms are so cool. Are those concert toms (no bottom skins)??? Or do you have towels on them...Or do you not want to give away your secret??? LOL!
This is very, very cool. I'm trying to figure who you remind me of, vocal wise. Maybe 3 Dog Night, Rare Earth....Not sure, but it definitely takes me back. Just bring down the over heads a bit, and it should almost be perfect.

Did you play everythnig on this?

Man, this is wild... the vox and guitars especially. Very live sounding. Really good harmony singing. Tame those cymbals. In the last 30 sec. or so I think there are too many guitars wailing. I'd just have one of the current L/R gtrs and move the current middle part to the opposite side, each panned to about 10 and 2 o'clock, but that's just me.

Rock on Mister MooOOooOOooOOooOOoonlight. (Do I have enought eighth note oo's in there?)

Kudos from Monkey too.

I get the message that server is either busy or not online... :( I will try later. :)

I got it finally!! I really like this! 70s ROCK!!! Love the vocals, and well everything else. I went on to listen to..........

"Can't hear the words"....and I liked it too! At 4:00 it kicked, with the subtle drums and cymbals in background, then lead riff, BUT I wish you had taken the geetar all the way to the end and finished it out. :)

Great Job!!! :)

Wow thats some Heavy feedback, thanks guys it means a lot to me.

I agree on turning down the OH`s a few notches, it was one of my first drum mixes. so I need all the advice I can get.

Some info on the drums; I removed the underskin on all the toms, and the Kick.
I padded the kick with four or five coushins, so that it was relativly dead, I muffeled all the toms with remo muffles, just left enough space open for the drummer to hit em. on the snare I put a whole box of Moon gel, wich I think is a killer in the field of muffling.

I also tuned the drums as low as possible, trying to obtain that classical Prog rock sound "Andy Ward of camel sound".
specially satisfied with the snare.

I had a drummer doing all the drum bits, we did the take in the frist day, the rest of the vox guitars and poor bassing was done by me.

Again thank you guys, for comments.

I agree on that last part I went a bit overboard on the guitar bit, Its just such cool backing to solo to. I just couldent resist.
Will try that panning tips.

thanks man I agree on the Guitar bit, I actually have a guitar harmony folowing the last refrain, but its way to low.
Dident have any monitors when mixing this song.

Great song! It has a kind of T. Rex feel to it. Very 70's indeed!

My main nit is the drums. Sloppy performance and the heads are a little too loose (even though that's a 70's sound), especially on the snare.

Other than that I loved it. I even saved it so that's telling you something right there!

This is totally excellent!!

I love it. Great song.

Great job with the 70's sound all the way around.
There's just the right amount of sloppiness to make it even more authentic sounding. (I mean that in the best possible way!)
I love the bass doubling the guitar riffs. It sounds so 'right'.
Very nice vocals, too.

I have to agree that the overheads are a little too loud in relation to the rest of the drum kit.

I enjoyed this a lot. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks man, The drummer wasent to satisfied with his playing, but we had a certain limit of time, he did a few takes and the one I chose had the least errors.

Allthough I agree on it being a bit sloppy.
The "heads being abit to loose bit" sounds intresting, I tried to get them sounding as tight as I could, hence it was me doing the muffling and tuning I stepped into a undiscovered terretory for me.

Maybe the room needs more damping, the snare gave me some headaches at first, but after putting 4 moongel pieces on it sort of gave in.

If you have any pointers on how to get it tighter and dryer, I would be very intrested in hearing it.

Just Pm me, or put it down here.

again thanks mate. :)
