I just pulled the trigger on a Viking 512MB compact flash card for my MR-8. Amazon.com is selling the card for $159 plus a $50 rebate!!! Final price = $109 (no charge for tax or shipping)! After I have a chance to give the card a spin, I'll provide a full report.

Just like always the price of these memory cards will soon drop to almost nothing. Heck, my apple Ipod is 20 gigs......which I think will also be usefull for storing my mr-8 tracks since my laptop is running low in the memory department its self.....give these cards 6 months and you will be amazed at the price drop

Hi,
I bought the transcend 512mb b4 it got dropped off the confirmed list. But let me tell you, my track minutes remaining have rarely dipped under an hour and no card errors since mr-8 software update 1.0.3 !!!
I remember when a DEC 1GB disk cost $ 25,000 and weighed about 50 pounds !!

BIZZWRITER, please get back to us on the compatibility of that card.

RedStar8, so your saying you were using the Transcend 512 card works just fine with v 1.0.3? If so, whats the exact model number and how much did you get it for?

Excellent...just the thread I've been waiting for. I will monitor this one closely. Not that I NEED the 512, but I really want one. If the prices drop that dramatically, there's no reason to fear running out of memory.

Hi,
The transcends were at mydigitaldiscount.com for about $160.
Great service / Prices.
I talked to transcend about them being un-confirmed and they were going to take it up with Fostex about getting re-confirmed.

Will do -- let me know if there are any specific tests you'd like me to perform (besides filling up all the tracks, bouncing to 7/8, and creating a .wav file). I should have the card within a week.

redstar8, let me get this straight. the card is not on the confirmed compatibility list but does work with both 1.0 and 1.0.3?

Hi,
it was the 30X and had a couple of card errors with 1.0.1.
But the first day I had it, my wife turned on the vacumn cleaner creating a low voltage that I think caused the first error. CF can have problems with low voltage I found out later.
A week ago I upgraded to 1.0.3 and no problems since !
Hopefully, they will get re-confirmed for mr-8 because they seem to be pushing the edge of cf technology.

great! thanks for the info. I might buy this one. The 1 gig Transcend card on this site is $499.99. good lord thats a lot of money.

oh ohhhh...

Doesn't look good. Got my 512M Viking CFC today, plugged it in (loved it when my screen said I had 95 minutes of recording to go), threw a minute's worth of stuff on each of four tracks, then bounced to 5/6. The card is choking. The MR-8 acts like it's bouncing, but there are no tracks on 5/6 when it's done. Also, as the unit is "bouncing," I get some weird digital artifacts (sounds like the signal is clipping randomly from track to track) in my headphones. I already tested it with the original 128M CFC, and bouncing works fine on my unit, so it's gotta be the Viking card that's the problem.

I'm going to perform further testing tonight, but it looks like the Transcend 512M may be the best bet for now. If I can't get this Viking to work by tomorrow, it's going back to Amazon, and I'm gonna order the Transcend from My Digital Discount.
