5 star mic threads...

Ladies and gentlemen... whoever is rating every thread a 5 star thread is not doing us any benefit. Ususally those threads that are truly informative and special are alloted the 5 star rating, like Harveys mongo mic thread, Sonusmans mixing thread, etc.
"I just bought a Nady Starpower mic" with one response that says "congrats" should not have a rating at all, really, much less 5. The idea is to draw attention to "important" and beneficial threads.
Just my 2 cents.

OK, so at first I was a little annoyed. But when I read the title of this thread, I couldn't help but snicker. It's such an absurd situation. I mean, look at all those damn stars! Now we have to look at them all the time.

This actually got me laughing. Don't ask me why. It's so absurd!

Boy oh boy! Somebody is just a real joker, eh? I'll bet the culprit is having one heckova knee slappin' good time right about now..it's so pathetic and ABSURD, but it's also hilarious.

OK, that's enough. Can we get all those stars erased now, please?

If you just hold your pointer over the stars for a second, a little box will pop up telling you how many votes have contributed to the rating. At least that's what happens if you're using I.E. Like when I hold my pointer over the rating for this thread, it says there's a 5.0 average, with one vote contributing. I wonder if sometimes people rate their own threads with 5 stars hoping to get more people to read it.

Herman, that's a great tip, thanks.
But the cool thing would be if it can display something like Amazon's ratings directly in the column, and even sort with that parameter.

What I often do is I go to the bottom and then I sort them by Number of views. That will give you the best threads up.
BTW, the Sort by Rating feature doesn't work right in my computer. It's just me or was it the Moderator who, in a trully Nostradamus fashion, saw this rating nonsense coming and disabled the feature in advance? ;-)

Speaking of weighted ratings, there's a guy here who made a rating of albums and groups in which he weighted records sales and years of permanence of those albums on the market. Thought it'll be interesting, he drops some nice conclusions on the state of the recording industry, its procedures and its future, the pros and cons of investing in a musician career, the financial benefits of one-hit bands, and so.

He also gives a mastering program for the mac for free, so that's a bonus also. And finally, he has an article on dithering that you should read if you're into the tech side of it, with spectrograms and things like that.

Ah, and it's not me nor my boyfriend ;-)

I have never noticed or cared about the rating system. Should I? Or should I just click on subjects that interest me, or that I feel I can contribute to, that are not redundant? I guess I have an internal "star" system...
