Addled but happy
I'm searching for 4tracks on ebay -- just pricing for now -- and noticed 464s selling cheaper than 424 MKIIs. Do they make 464 anymore? What was the original difference between the two?

Also, what are the differences b/t the 424 MK2 and the MK3 besides the stereo channels having EQ?

Thanks!

464 and 424mk2 and mk3

Please keep in mind a channel and a track are two completly different things. The 424Mk2/3 and the 464 are all 4 track machines, but each has a different combination of channels.
The 424mk3 has 6 regular channels and 1 stereo channel(7/8) with no eq or fader. The stereo channel is used to bring in effect devices or a cd/tape player. Signal from the stereo channel goes to the master fader, or you can bring in signal on channels using one of the auxs.
The 464 has 4 regular channels and 2 stereo channels with eq and faders. I think you can use one side of each stereo channel to give yourself 6 regular channels.
Personaly I find the 424mk3 to be more user friendly than the 464.
The 424MK2 has 4 regular channels and 2 stereo channels similar to the mk3(no eq or faders).
Goto the tascam website and you can get the exact specs on all there 4track machines.

whoops

Ps. I cant spell. Also, when I say "regular channel" I should really say "mono channel".
Good luck!
