The main output through my headphones on my recently-acquired 424 mkIII is really really quiet. I've tried several pairs of headphones, it's not them. In order to hear really anything, I have to crank the gain WAY past the red and turn the level control all the way up. Additionally, I have tried both the RCA-jack outputs into a mixing board and tried my headphones through there, and I still have to crank the gain/level on everything just to barely hear my recording. I recorded my track on the 424 and got good levels and such, and when I play the same tape in my trusty 414 and the volume is fine.
Additionally, when I enable either of the effects channels and turn up the individual effect level control on a track, I can hear that at a regular volume (of course, that doesn't help me much, since there's no pan or EQ if I just listened to the effects sends mixes), it's like there's something wrong with my main mix. Did I get a bum unit? If so, that would be my third broken Portastudio, and as much as I like the one fully operational one that I own, it makes me start to lose my faith in them.
