I just hear the converters in the 001 are far worse than the 002. Seems a shame running $4000 worth of pres into that.

I think that EUR 4000.- for pres would be a waste of money if you use the signal chain in your signtaure. You won't be able to hear the difference between a $400 and a $4k pre with that. Just my two cents.

Nah..... Quality pres into the 001 is far better than cheaper pres into a 002.
The 002 is only a small improvement in the conversion AND preamp department, and really not worth the upgrade cost.
To go down the convertor path he's be MUCH better off getting an 8ch Mytek or apogee or something like that and keeping the 001.
The PCI 001 also outperforms the firewire 002 in the plugin /track count department.

sorry i meant to change my signature, im goin into a MOTU HD 192 not a 001, thats gone, im planning to look into an apogee rosetta or something tho.
