4 ohm monitors into 8 ohm receiver?

Just curious if I would do any damage by hooking up my 4 ohm monitors into my 8 ohm stereo receiver?

If so, could anyone recommend a decent 150 watt-per-side power amp for minimal scratch?

probablywouldn't hurt anything unless you just turned it up super loud. Also ..... what makes you say it's an 8-ohm reciever? Does it say 8-ohm minimum impedance on it? If so then I'd be a little more careful about cranking it up but if it just gives a power rating at that impedance then it's probably just a rating and doesn't neccessarily mean that you can't run it into 4 ohms. And I've almost never seen an amp that couldn't run into 4 ohms.

as I understand it you can pull more current from the power amplifier due the resistance being lowered.

V=IxR....

V is fixed, so if R goes down, I (current) goes up.

Basic example in numbers.

Voltage is 24Volts.
Resistance is 8ohms
that means, current is 3 amps

So if your resistance were to go to 4ohms....your current will be 6 amps.
24= 6x4

in theory. I think someone said usually the amp chip goes, but maybe the voice coil of the speaker sometimes....which ever breakdown first? Alot of new ampos have Circuit break trips for shorts on speaker wires etc... (short = 0 ohms)..

Art SLA-2. Google for reviews.
