4 Ch TAPCO 6306 Mixer Trick to Record 6 Sources - Help

I have a 4 Channel TAPCO 6306 Mixer. It comes with 2 XLR inputs (With 1/4 Inst. Ins on the same Ch), and 2 other 1/4 Line In, but they (the Line Ins) have dual stereo/mono functionality. The mixer comes with phantom power so I am good on that, but I was hoping I could cheat by using, for example, the two XLR ins for my snare and bass (because I want to control their EQ's and Volumes independent from the rest of the mix) and then using the 1/4 line in's stereo functionality with 2 separate mics on the L and R inputs (one mic for each) and then doing the same on the 4th Ch with 2 other mics. The way I see it is that a microphone is basically a mono input anyways, and having a mic in a mono line in won't change or distort the sound in any way. Would this work or should I instead use an XLR Y to 1/4 and use two mics on each XLR input instead?

Nah your on the right track man, (pardon the pun ) Tr1 Snare Tr2 Kick Tr 3/4 your L/R 2 x XLR to T/S and Tr 5/6 2 x XLR to T/S should work a treat

Wow, this forum is awesome! Your all are very awesome and helpful. But one more question. When you say "2 x XLR to T/S" do you mean an XLR-Y Cable to a 1/4 Stereo, and then into my mono or 2 individual stereo cables (Because unlike mono their signal is balanced right?) into my left AND right input? I'd say the second option sounds better and more along the lines of what you were talking about.

Will this work? What are your opinions? I need the Phantom Power Supply for the two Condensor mics. Because Phantom Power can't be transfered through 1/4 to my XLR mics, right?
