Hi,
I just in a prosses of designing a studio for a band.
the space is built like that that the (very small) control room is on the street level while the live room is on the bassment.
the bad conditions lead me for these questions:
1.How long will it be safe to send cabels (live room's stagebox to controls patchbay) that suppose the carry 48v power for condenser mics (and back a mic level signal to patchbay>preamp>tape).
2. since there's no "eye contact" between the live and control rooms it will be needed to use sort of web cam or other solution. can anyone give me info/ideas about this since i never used one of these and really have no clue what I need and is it like.
3. the live room acoustic tretment is already done to (nearly) perfection, the control room ,though, is very problamatic: it is very small and almost square (ca 3.5x3 meters), got high celling and one window (on the shorter wall) and a door (on longer wall).
anyone , any ideas to make it sound as half disent control room?
thanx a lot

If you think about your 1st question fo a minute the answer will be obvious. Consider a large Classical concert hall or a Remote recording truck. One of the venues we record regularly in has run that exceeds 250' from hall to control room. Just be sure to use good quality cable such as Mogami or Canare.

If you must view each other it will be cheaper to find a couple of old TV's and get 2 micro camera's. These can be found on the web. Set up a talk back system and your set to go. It will be much cheaper than dedicating a computer for a camera setup. We bought a color unit for under $100 that had audio and video outputs. It would beat trying to isolate a computer in your studio just for video. Careful as sometimes there is a high freq. whistle from the high voltage stage of a TV or video monitor.
