1. Luna looks interesting? $200 street!

2. The B5 looks like Alan Hyatt may have someone else to sue! This is about half the price of the SP C4, I wonder if it will sound anywhere near as good? If it does, I bet no-one will admit it!!

(BTW: Behringer also have a new 'C1' out too. It doesn't look like the SP one though)

3. The TLA, looks like some of the Chinese tube mics that are out there (exactly like SoundKing models). I wonder if it is a custom job, or off the shelf? I suspect that the pre amp/PSU will be better than the standard Chinese fair though?

lol the C1 is $40.. its a copy of the samson mic.. behringer.. behringer..:o :o

The Samson is $70 - £80 here in the UK, and got good reviews taking the price into consideration. So for $40 (£26), for anyone who didn't think they could afford any LDC, this at least gives them a chance! I mean, the cable would be as much!!! Or maybe it comes with one??Ha Ha?

What do you think about the other mics? That C5 is sure to cause a stir with PMI lot!

Who else did Alan sue? Is Marshall going to sue Alan for his MXL603S look-alike?

Actually, I don't know if Alan has sued anyone and I want to clear that up right now, before I am accused off defamation or something!

I know that PMI was attempting to take legal action against TFPRO, but I don't think it ever went all the way? This is what I was referring to. I was trying to be cute!

In any case, Alan has said over at Recording.org that he can't (or may be just can't be arsed) to do anything about it. He claims that he is not bothered and that they will not lose many sales as the product is inferior to the C4.

I tend to agree. I think those buying the C4 would be too embarrassed to even mention trying the B5, but I hope someone will give them a go, just out of curiosity!

HERE IS THE LINK AGAIN, AS THE LAST ONE MAY NOT HAVE WORKED?

Well, you didn't expect Alan to say the B5 was better or as good as the C4 did you? Just kidding... kind of. Anyway, I've never used the B5, so I don't know... sorry.

Someone told me that the Behringer C1 is a copy of the Samson mic. Now I know that the Samson is not a great mic, but it has been commended at its low price here in the UK of £70 - £80 ($105 - $120). Personally, I'd sooner have a SP B1 for £65, but anyway... Now it seems as though the C1 (according to this guy on another forum) is going to be about $40, which is £27!!!

Come on, for anyone who is really on the tightest of budgets, this would at least allow them to have a condenser in their set-up! I can see a few people also taking them to pub gigs and stuff and using them instead of their 'expensive' dynamics! That's if they can withstand a few knocks? The Samson at least seems well made.

I must have missed something, but which Samson mic are you referring to? The CO1? If so, it is a good mic for the price, but it also has a self-noise of around 23db. For louder type situations it would work well, and I think it looks good too!

The SP B1 sounds great and has a self-noise of around 12db. I believe overall it's a much better/wiser buy than the Samson CO1.

I agree that the B1 is a much wiser buy than the CO1, but if the CO1 was £27, like the Behringer C1 clone is rumoured to be, then it has to be considered great value if it is as good as the C01.

I can't speak on the Behringer, but I know the Samson is as good as the Samson! So here's an offer... Because I do lots of voice only stuff, I can't really use my 2 Samson CO1's. One has never even been opened. So, how about US$100. (plus whatever shipping you'd want) for both, including their shock mounts? If you wan't 'em, let me know.

Do not take it for granted that the Berry will be the same Mic as the Samson {I agree it looks bloody similar} see the threads started by Ausrock on the Rode NT2 = Berry B2.

Billisa:

I'm not actually looking to buy any of these mics, but thanks for the good offer! I already have quite a decent mic collection in the budget end of the spectrum and my next purchase (after 2 MK 012's for $99 from GC), will be a mid-priced Tube, like an ADK A48 or TT or AT4060?

My list at the moment is:

AKG C535eb
AKG D25 (2) - one for sale!
Calrec CB20 with CC50 cap (4)
Calrec CM1051c
Calrad C500 (Vintage Crystal)
Electro Voice RE200
Electro Voice RE1000
Groove Tubes GT33 (2-matched)
Groove Tubes GT55
Studio Projects C1

Hey, you're way beyond my league! Great stuff you've got! Have you considered anything from the Blue line? Bottle? Baby bottle?

Yeah a Blue mic would be nice!

You know, it is much harder buying an 'upper end' mic than a 'lower end' one. With the cheaper mics, you can simply read a few reviews and hang on these boards for advice and just jump in! Because you're not spending much, even if it is only half as good as the hype it will be worth the money!

When spending $1000 and above, you really don't want to make a misstake, as most 'weekend producers' can't afford to keep buying $1000 mics until one is just right, like one can with $200 mics.

So I really want to check a few out first and may be a Blue will be in there?
