Bring Back Transfat!
I inherited a 14gb 5400 maxtor from my wife's computer. I'm thinking I might set it up in my daw which has an 80gb 7200 maxtor.

I've never done this before so I'll need a little help.

I assume (uh-oh) that I'll make one of these a slave to the other.
Which one should carry the OS (win98)?

How does it work when you fire up the machine?
Do you see the other drive in explorer as "drive D" or whatever you've labeled it?
If so, does this mean you can just drag and drop music files from one to the other?

Anything else I need to be aware of?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Yes you should make the 14GB 5400 Hard Drive the master and install your operating system on it and your audio programs

Then you can just use the faster 80GB 7200 Hard Drive for the audio files. Make this the slave

It is just plug the new drive in and windows will see it

Also!

I just looked at the sticker on this drive I'm putting in wife's box. It says ATA-100. I asked the kid at best buys for a 7200 drive at 66 ATA!

Can I use this drive without compatability issues?!!!

ATA-100 (and 133) are fully backwards compatible with older ATA-33 and -66 interfaces. No problem.

dont slave the audio drive...put it on the secondary master.......
