2488-How to record 8 trks simultaneously

I am a novice...I mean really a novice. The only home recording I have ever done was back in the day on my old Portastudion 4 track. I have recently purchased the 2488 and have had good results recording 1 track at a time, overdubbing etc. However, although the manual alludes to the fact that all 8 inputs can be used and recorded simultaneously, I am not finding where it tells specifically how this can be done.
As I said I am a total novice....so this is probably about the dumbest question ever asked in this forum, but I need help. Thanks all!

When you create a new song the routing (quick routing - map button) is already in the recording mode and the default settings are such that when you press the green 'source' button you'll see the 'select' button light up directly below and all you have to do is press the red 'record' button in between. Trim knobs are directly above and the eight inputs in back and you're good to go.

recording multiple sources at the same time. I know you can record up to 8 the question is HOW?

Okay, when I hit source one track lights up. (that's fine) when I hit another source that track lights up and the other goes out. I can't find anywhere in the manual that indicates how to keep 2 (8) sources lit at the same time. I'm absolutely positve I'm missing something simple but I can't find it. I've tried shift and select I've tried holding down all the buttons at the same time.

I believe this is what the original poster was also asking. what's the answer

replying to my own message is annoying I know.

I just got off with tascam tech support, he tells me you have to do this through the quick map option. Doesn't seem very intuitive - but I'll try it out when i get home tonight.

The quick routing/record mode will default assignments straight up and down, one through eight, you just need to hit the record buttons to arm the tracks.

I'm not completely certain what you mean, but I did go in last night and messed with it and got it to work - funny thing was the two mic channels lit up together but the guitar channel did not. Still recorded when armed though so I don't really care as long as it works, seems inconsistent though

I believe the 'guitar' channel, or 8, or 'input H' defaults to the front input cause it thinks you want to plug in a guitar. Maybe not. Anyway, you assign your channels by pressing and holding the input button and then the the channel 'select' button (just below the record button). You can assign any channel you want, it just defaults to A = 1, B = 2, and so on.

Yep, I got that - really I think I've resolved the issue so that it works, I was just annoyed that the lights are not consistent

In other words, press and hold input E and select channel one. Press and hold input F (e light goes out) and select channel 3. Press and hold input H (f light goes out) and select channel 5. I go into quick map and when in this screen I press and hold Input E and then press input F they both light up, as does there selected channels - however if I do the same thing with input H it doesn't work. Again, when I arm all tracks for record it works and they record fine so I'm not really concerned.

I am really happy with the quality I'm getting out of this device so far, I'm not real good at all the effects and equalizing yet - but pretty happy especially for the price.
