Bring Back Transfat!
This was a response in a thread where I was asking about motherboards:

it looks like the 2488 has a usb connection if you want to use that you will need some sort of driver, I would check the tascam site and see what operating systems they have a driver available for.. If it just functions as an external hard drive or conforms to some sort of audio standard, drivers may not be necessary.

I don't want to over-complicate this, but I don't wanna spiral into confusion either. My thought was that the 2488 would be seen as just another drive.

New house with studio still getting finished. 2488 is new, and I I haven't even touched it yet, much less ran a USB line to the computer. The computer I've got down there now is an antiquated POS, which is why I'm building a new box.

All of that said, anything I need to consider when building a computer to mate with the Tascam? My intent is to record on the 2488, but do mastering on the computer.

Piece of cake. Follow the procedure on page 65 of the 2488 manual.

The 2488 will show up as a drive on your PC where you can drag and drop files.

The catch is that you have to have the files on the 2488 FAT partition so be ready for some long transfer time. This is in the maunal under file import export see pg 68.

Oops sorry if I confused you, I just wasn't sure how much functionality was built into the usb connection. Looks like it does just function as a drive. Hope I didn't cause a panic!

Not at all, just lookin' for clarification. sweat!
