24 ch line mixer

anyone got any ideas on a cheap 24ch line mixer? i can seem to come up with anything....
 
i just want to monitor my hd24 for live recordings. i dont need any eq or anything. i have preamps. would prefer rackmountable.
 
Speck X-Sum. It's a 16 ch. stereo line mixer so you could balance 32 signals with it. Price tag is one heck of a pill to swallow but, I bet the sound quality is amazing.
 
that is the thing. doesnt have to sound spactacular. doesnt have to have a great summing bus. just something that i can monitor 24 mono channels while doing location recording..

I thought about the same thing, but they won't link. But you can get two of them and then link them to an Alesis MultiMix 12R. The two Behringer mixers could connect to the 12R's Stereo channels (9&10 and 11&12). Then you can monitor everthing through the headphones on the 12R. Think of the Behringer mixers as a sub mix. Each mixer would handle 8 tracks from the HD24.
 
Or just run the main out of unit 1 to one of the stereo inputs of unit 2 and then you've basically got 15 stereo channels instead of 16. Right?

This would be good if all of your tracks on the HD24 were in stereo pairs. If I were monitoring the tracks, I would want each track to be on its own channel on the mixer for better pan control. Having tracks chopped up on left and right of my head phones would drive me nuts.

I guess you could use the FX monitor to Headphones option on the Behringer, but then you would have to use the pan on each pair of channels since the fader controls both side... the pan would be used to increase or decrease the the volume between the two. I would say I would go crazy doing that too.
 
Yeah, your right. That's why I recommended the X-Sum. They can link up. I have always wanted an Alesis 12R mixer. I don't know why but, I have.

I bought three of the Studio Projects SP828s for exactly this purpose. 8 decent (but certainly not fancy) mic pres, rudimentary mixing bus (with levels and panning, nothing more), and they chain together quite easily. If you don't want to use the mic pres, you don't have to. They can accept the line levels from the HD24.

SP has some B-Stock units on their website at a very attractive price (less than I paid, that's for sure <g>).

Find any ol' mixer with line inputs. If you do the two mixer route, just take the Main Out left and right and go into another consoles "effect return".

I did this once to mix a 24 track demo. The little studio only had a Mackie 1604, and I brought along a 1202. It worked out great (such as "great" means using two mackie POS!).

Remember, Main Out on one console to Effect Return (aux return, whatever...) on another console. There you go!
 
Find a used Behringer DDX3216 with the adat cards. Could be found for around $600.00
