24 Bit SoundCard

I need a 24 bit soundcard, but I don't need tons of inputs and outputs. I like the idea of the M-Audio Audiophile 2496, but don't want to shell out that kind of money when I don't really need all those ins and outs that it comes with. I really only need to be able to plug my mic in for recording, and my computer's speakers. It might not hurt to have one extra input. Is there a 24 bit card that's just as good as the Audiophile 2496 but less priced and less fancy?

Also, is a 24 bit only better because it helps cut down latency, or does it also improve sound quality?

Whats so fancy about the Audiophile? Its a 2 input card like any of the SB Cards from Creative, but delivers better quality sound and support/drivers.

It is actually cheaper than the Audigy 2 Platinum EX.

If you are at all serious about recording, I wouldn't suggest anything less than $150. Its like the saying "Crap in - crap out" or in otherwords, you get what you pay for...
 
If an audiophille is too much to "shell out", you need to settle for a Sound Blaster and poor results.

The bitrate has nothing to do with the latency and everything with the soundquality.
The Audiophile is one of the cheapest 24 bits soundcard on the market that's worth mentioning so....
 
hmm... The only thing comparable would be the MIA, but it doesn't do midi.
 
Isn't the MIA actually a little more expensive? And does the audiophille have midi connections?
 
Whoa, nuff said! Thanks fellas. I needed to hear something like that to help ease my mind. I definitely want great sound quality, and I don't think I'm going to get what I want with the 16 bit card I have now. Audiophile 2496 it is...

For some reason I could have sworn that it had 4 ins and 4 outs though. I must be confusing it with something else.

It has 2 analog inputs/outputs as well as SPDIF.
 
My Audiophile 2496 is on the way. Couple of quick questions so I can anticipate how to install it.

Is it easy to install? He He.

Is it necessary to uninstall anything that has to do with my previous Creative Labs soundcard, like the volume control, or anything?

since u guys are talkin bout soundcards...n im thinkin bout gettin this audiophile....i got some stupid questions for u....

is it capable of record 4 seperate tracks at a time? my mixer has rca outs and channel inserts, so would that work? ...and i'm using cakewalk sonar by the way....also, how do i hook up the ins and outs? do i take a cable with on one a stereo plug and with the other 2 mono plugs...n put one in the in and one in the out? help!!!!!!!
 
Audiophille has 2 inputs, you can record 2 tracks at once.
The delta 44 has 4 inputs, you can record 4 tracks at once, all inputs are mono.

Yes you can use the inserts to go into the sound card, they are both mono.

You don't need any stereo connections because you are working in mono. Or at least you should be.

The delta 44 isn't a lot more than the audiophille 2496 but it doesn't have SPDF or MIDI.
 
The audiophile has 2 analog inputs and 2 digital inputs. If you get an additional ADC (analog to digital converter) later you can record 4 analog channels simultaneously.
 
Forgot to add that, thanks alfalfa. Yea if you have a preamp or effects unit with SPDF out you can run it through the SPDF in of the audiophile and gain a few more channels.

And you can record the SPDF channels along with the regular inputs to have them all recording simultaniously. So if you have 2 from the audiophile's regular inputs and 2 from the SPDF you can have 4 at the same time.

Which would be a good deal cause it's cheaper than the Delta 44 and has midi and SPDF! But that's only if you have gear with SPDF outs or are planning on buying some.

That was true then, but now we have the all new Echo MiaMIDI.

Definitely worth serious consideration.

so what about the delta 66.....is it basically the same as the delta 44 except with 2 addittional rca inputs....??

then in that case, would i able to record 6 tracks, 4 thru the inserts and 2 addittional but panning one track to the left and one track to the right??

and also, if they are both mono, on the inserts and the inputs on the soundcard, then i cant use panning?
 
4 inputs on the delta 66, 4 tracks.

If you have preamps that have SPDF out, you can plug them into the SPDF in of the sound card and get a few more tracks, but with the behringer you have 4 inputs at the same time.
 
24 Bit cards & 16 bit CDs

OK dumb question.

If I'm primarily concerned with the quality of the CD I'm burning, and its a 16 bit 44k format, how does a 24 bit 96k sound card improve the sound of the CD?
