can anyone help? Im using the m-audio delta44 in cakewalk pro audio 9 with windows 2000.Now my problem, everytime I set everything to 24bit 96k, a window comes up saying that the drivers dont support 24/96. Am I doing something wrong? It will only record when I set it all back to 16bit 44k. thanks, guitardude

get a different sound card, or record at a different rate. Sounds like your card doesn't support that sample rate.

Um, the Delta 44 supports 24/96.

What version of the driver do you have?

You can download the latest version here.

Make sure to set your project's preferences correctly.

Somewhere in the back of my mind is something about Win2K and 96K support, like needing a service pack or something......or not. Anyway, yes, start with getting the latest driver for Win 2000 from M-Audio. Also, make sure you're using the ASIO driver and not the windows driver, which may be an option setting in your DAW.
Lastly, unless you have some need to use 24/96, you may find you'll get better system performance (more tracks and plugins) by going with 24/44.1. Do a search here on the subject, it's been discussed extensively. A lot of engineers feel that any sonic benefit that might (or might not) be gained in 96Khz sample rate is lost in sample rate conversion down to 44.1k for CD burning. 24 bit is absolutely the way to go though.

96 might be if not using the relevant dynamics/efx or for recording frequency rich instruments like orchestral etc, but 24 bit certainly is an advantage in terms of headroom, S/N etc.

First of all, debating the whole 24 vs 16, 44.1 vs 96 really doesn't answer this guys question. I haven't used Cakewalk Pro 9 in many years, but I would go in and make sure you are using the most recent drivers from M-audio's website. Also check the mode the drivers are in. In may make a difference if it is running in MME or WDM or ASIO. I would also download Reaper from reaper.fm and make sure it works in 24 96 in that app. You should also consider there could actually be something wrong with the interface itself.
