Somewhere in the back of my mind is something about Win2K and 96K support, like needing a service pack or something......or not. Anyway, yes, start with getting the latest driver for Win 2000 from M-Audio. Also, make sure you're using the ASIO driver and not the windows driver, which may be an option setting in your DAW.
Lastly, unless you have some need to use 24/96, you may find you'll get better system performance (more tracks and plugins) by going with 24/44.1. Do a search here on the subject, it's been discussed extensively. A lot of engineers feel that any sonic benefit that might (or might not) be gained in 96Khz sample rate is lost in sample rate conversion down to 44.1k for CD burning. 24 bit is absolutely the way to go though.
