One upgrade just keeps leading to another. . .
Since I'm switching to Wavelab for mastering and editing, I thought it would be worthwhile to take advantage of the dithering and track at 24/96 files instead of 16/44 or 16/48.
Right now I record to two-track in the field (small clubs, school auditoriums, etc.) with a pair of condensors going into a Roland MMP-2, which supplies phantom power, preamps, 24/96 A/D conversion, and eq and compression should I use them. (I don't use or care about modelling features). And it is good.
I feed the Roland's S/PDIF output into one or both of a Nomad Jukebox (extremely reliable and bit-accurate 16/44 or 16/48 wav recording) and a laptop (less reliable) via a Edirol UA-30 (16 bit, not necessarily bit accurate).
So I was trying to figure out a cost effective way of getting the Roland's 24/96 digital stream into the computer, and it occurred to me that maybe I should fageddabout the Roland altogether and just use an M-Audio Duo. USB into the laptop at 24/96 and S/PDIF out into the Jukebox for a reliable 16/48 backup.
Seems simple enough if the sound quality is there.
