I did this song this morning it was stuck in my head. Cold, no plectrum. It is only 1 track of guitar and 1 singing. Track one still has the guide vocal on it too at times. there is no reverb until later on too. oh yes and a clap.

What do you think of the song while its fresh from the fridge? There was no tempo thing either so it may go out a bit but I liked the guitar riff and the last verse. Thats about all really.

Sounds great as usual. My favorite is that guitar harmonic that first hits at 1:06! That is unusually cool! Never heard that before.

I really don't know what you're singing about cause I failed to pay attention cause it just feels so good and moves so well. You could be singing about potato chips and I would just sit back and smile cause it just sounds great makes me feel happy. Some things I can't really analyze you know. I just know that there is some magical quality about your music. Everyone I have introduced to your music has the same reaction.

Erland, you kick my ass. I envy your raw talant. Great guitar work.

pretty spiffy....

I [can]hear a stadium full of people stompin' the back of the chairs in time to the music, a whole pile of bagpipe players marching in for the 2nd verse...., and just a huge backwall of Marshall amps, up on stage. It's hot outside...but the weather is still nice...
ahhh...stadium rock:p

I'm hearing your claps sometimes sounding like the cap coming off a beer bottle:eek:

Nice grease you're using on that music machine....:) Definately on a roll.

On a side note...this is getting a little crispy sounding, mainly on the vocals...and like the levels might be getting a little "hot"(on the vocals). But, you're getting a good sound out of the equipment you're using.

You need to get away from the fridge and find some folks to play your music with. :D

againg I was trying desprately to understand what the song is about but, alas I have failed :D

And I agree you do have something in your music that everyone wants but can't buy it or even point to it or understand what it is probably because it's a combination of a lot of things.

Don't let it get to your head though :). I new a guy who was really talented. He wrote great song and played very well, just had that "touch", he used to just figure out chords that would fit his songs. It was awesome. But he never did anything with it, probably didn't realy want to I guess. And I always thought "what a waste?".

Anyway the point is .... eeeeeh......
don't know.....

Ok I'm gonna guess on the song meening againg :)

We only got 24/7 as far the time so we need to tell that someone
we love'em and be sweet to'em :D

good stuff as usual but the ocassional clapping didn't do it for me.
and where did that shaker go? You got another track for it... :)

oh ye.. and ask mixmkr for some stomping to go with the clapping :D lol

cheers

oh... never mind mixmkr beat me to it and offered you some stomping already. :D lol

cool song..

I agree with mixmkr about the vocals. I noticed it on your recent songs. I think they sound almost siblant? (sp?)... kinda a bit harsh at times.. the sound of the vocals, NOT the singing. :)

cool tunes as usual though...

Give this to mixmkr! :D

Oh yes. I was supposed to critique the mix. Well it needs work. Boomy guitar recording, signals a little too hot. I think maybe you need a compressor between your mic pre and your recorder but that costs $$$.

cool

thanks lads. I never actually mixed it at all. Just slapped two tracks on. I thought about doing a proper mix but just didn`t have time. I thought it would be fun to record it live as I hear it in the kitchen.

erichenryus - well cheers for that. "signals a little too hot. I think maybe you need a compressor between your mic pre and your recorder but that costs $$$" Don`t know what this means but can`t afford it whatever it is. The boomy guitar is recorded with no clear plectrum etc. thanks for the listen and the great comment though

Track Rat - no, you the man.

mixmkr - glad you enjoyed it and could hear the accompanying band.

I think i just found a vocal setting that had worked with the others and left it at that. What are your recomendations to better it. Thanks for the piano advise.

Fed - well I`m glad you liked it. I`ll keep that in mind. I just wanted two tracks as a rough sketch. A better version would have the olde bisto shaker for sure ;). You nailed the meaning of the song. Pure and simple.

B.SABBATH - cheers Sam. Good show. yes the vocals. What does sibling actually mean. is that too high pitched or "s" noisy. Man I never told you how muched I liked your mix. I had first listend to it on a poor sounding computer. It sounded much better through a normal hi fi. Cheers

Sibilant: producing or having a hissing sound.

Man, nice tune bro. You should do a tour with Martin Sexton. I saw him a couple weeks ago, the night of a friends funeral, and his songs lifted me right up into the air and said "it sucks but you're gonna be fine. Now get out there and make some music."
Yours would have had the same effect.

lift me up

great comment! thankyou mate.

Hey I have been digging your music, kind of eerie. Whats your inspiration bro?

.....pretty damn impressive when a guy can put up that much with just 2 tracks. Great stuff erland..... I wish they sold that voice in a box:D mike

I don't imagine my inspiration is much different than yours. We both love life and value every day we have. At the risk of sounding like a cheeseball, I'll say that in my own music I try to create the "soundtrack" to the pain, and mix it with the "soundtrack" to the way I (or "we") overcome it. It's a neverending effort for me to blend it together musically. There is soooo much to learn.

You have a great gift. Get out there and share it with everyone who needs it. There are plenty who do.

Nice song Erland. I hear the sibilance thing, but no big deal...

Just curious, do you consider these demos, and do you plan to get more into home recording and fleshing out the arrangements and all that, which is quite an undertaking, or...obviously people like them undone, so I suppose it wouldn't be necessary.

If I were to attempt to produce your stuff, I'd probably do it like Travis, Coldplay, or a bit of David Gray. Curious what you would do. Just wondering what your plan is? :)

I don't think it's sibilance on the vocal, I think it's distortion. I think you could use a little more hifi recording path. A voice like yours already has enough grit in it, so you can record it really clean and pure and it will still sound good. Your pre sounds like distorted, and the vocal is also a little over-compressed. You have a really good voice, and it might behoove you to invest a couple hundred bucks in a nice preamp, like an Avalon or a Grace or something similar.

However, the song is great, so it makes up for most of the production quirks.

Also, I wouldn't double the vocal, it's not necessary on a chorus this catchy.

I was gonna stay after class today to work on my animation, but I saw your new song posted. So, I gave myself a good excuse to be lazy and come home early to listen :)

Nice sounding song. This time the vocal is a little more aggressive then the previous ones, which is definitely a good variety to hear from you, and of course the guitar playing style is part of the variety, too!

Question:
You haven't really talked about upgrading your gears, which makes me wonder if you are just enjoying recording acoustic gtr and vocal, and aren't planning on doing a full production until some producer picks you up or you still wanna do a bigger production, but just don't have the gears?
Anyways, whatever your plan is, I will be digging your tunes like always.

Erland, I enjoyed your song. Love the bridge. I was a little confused with the lyric. Seems like it should have been more conversational and easy to follow. But I like the story concept and think you have a real good song there if crafted a little more. Great guitar playing and singing.

I think the others can explain it better, but I just meant that I had to lower the volume a bit because of the crispness.. I usually listen to things pretty loud.. It could also be my speakers. It wasnt so bad that I couldnt dig the tune though.. I figure if your tunes will mainly be just acoustic and vocals, I would like to hear the best possible vocal sound. The acoustic sounded good to me though, and the vocals themselves are dead on..

I'm glad you liked the collaboration, let me know when you want to do another one.. Cheers back at ya!:)

I'm beginning to hate this guy... :p

I mess with my guitar sound for 4 hours and I still hate it.. and yet can pull up a chair in the kitchen and fart out a guitar track that sounds better than I'll ever make... :D Darn those talented people...

I'm still diggin' your "natural" recording sound... don't ever lose that, no matter how much you "learn" aboot mixing and sibilance and tweaking and blah blah blah... :p I think this recording is groovy just the way it is....

All it needs now is a Casio... :D :D :D

alright

Guernica - hey thats very nice of you. It was just a quick song put together so I could decide to record it better.

SLuiCe - great words again. Well a few months ago It was just me and the odd few drunken parties, now this website lets me have fun with the world`s ears as opposed to a select few friends. So i rechon thats a good step?

macle - well this one is completely undone compared to anything else I`ve posted. Perhaps nobody notices, if so, dam because i enjoyed mixxing the others the way they were. This one was just live in the Kitchen to get a feel for a song. If i liked it more, i`ll make a better recording, add percussion, vocal layers.

The others I had hoped had not been as naked, obvioulsy I need to do more. I would If I had time and equipment. i am trying to graduate and i only have a 4 track and guitar that i can use well enough to record. By all means i would build them up like your great prouctions. I actually used to use a Commodore Amiga when i was 13 or 15 and i used to make big dance/electronic songs. I might try and dig one out from tape, that would be a laugh eye! You nailed the sounds and bands. I think if i had more time on the fruity loops demo i could export a wav and make a David Gray style song. More importantly right now, firstly exam next week and 1 coursework.

charger - hi there. thanks. I`ll be honest, I don`t know what these things actually mean. "a little more hifi recording path" and "Your pre sounds like distorted". I am sure i`ll learn one day. I never doubled the vocal, it was just on the guide tarck 1. Sorry about that. I get what you mean though and I am glad you like the song. Cheers charger.

A1A2. hi good show. Do you rechon we could see the animation with the music in the future. i would like that. Thanks for the comments. As for gear upgrade, i can`t afford anything right now. I would like a nice guitar and a mic and access to a piano. I am saving up my money to pay for tuition fees next year. I was going to come to the USA to study for one year after graduation but they charge way to much. Spain is next on the hitlist, yeahaa. Glad you are digging the tunes. Now I am seriously digging your stuff. i listened to them all over again, very chilled and funky. really creative and stylish. Enjoying them.

thanks Sam. I`ve got 4 tastey tracks, you want one of em?

Thanks WATYF, glad you enjoy them. It makes it so much better to know that. Inspires me to sing more too. keep nailing yours out too. I wouldn`t be so hard on your self and just keep them coming. i rechon you`ve got loads, stored up, ready and waiting.

Well i am going to try something new. Be warned.
