Thanks for checking out my stuff I just downloaded all 3 of your songs. I decided to make a homerecording/com CD before I head home for summer, so, I am starting my collection.
What do you study? The colleges here in US charge like mad for international students, my girlfriend had to pay $1000US for 1 class! But, look into exchange student program or somehtng like that tho, you just might get lucky. A friend of mine went to Spain for classical guitar major, and he is loving it there. Hope you will be able to go.
I will definitely try to put the animation up for those who are interested once I have it done.

You definately sing like Rober Plant on this. Just a bit lower. The melody is decent now, but I think you could spice it up if/when you decide to do this properly. This doesn't sound really ecstatic yet, but there's some good playing and great singing. I could imagine this song to be better with some polishing, since it's so minimalistic.

I just haven't had time to put down my "real" tunes yet... that one I posted earlier was not really even my style,.. I just needed something for this CD were making, so I came up with that. As for being hard on myself... honestly, I'm a pretty picky (O.K... a very picky...) perfectionist type of guy... 
I mean... I really enjoy making the stuff, and I had loads of fun messing with that song, (And that's satisfaction enough) but when it comes to a finished product, I'm always gonna be looking to get things "just right".. and that will most certainly involve someone else singing my stuff.. But I appreciate the compliments.
As for you... dang.. you gotta get this stuff oat there... I almost wish you would come study in the States... that way it would be easier for me to kidnap you and force you to sing for my band... 
How much does that cost anyway...? Not "kidnapping you" (I've already looked into the cost on that one ) but "studying in the US". Is it for a particular subject, (do you major in "groovy songwriting" or something? ) or is it just "schooling" in general?
Seriously though... you've got "something". It's not that every one of your songs would be a "mega-hit" (although I think "from a boy" is a top 40 sure thing ) but you have a natural God-given talent to the point that almost anything you do has a certain appeal to it that you just can't explain....... and you know what we do when we have talent like that, don't you!?
We bottle it up and sell it to the highest bidder....!!
O.K. so maybe not... But you can be sure that if I ever make an international connection in the recording biz, I will be pointing him to your front door immediately.... (well.. as soon as I find your front door.... ) lol

You might rid that ssssibilance by backing off of the mic a bit when you sing. Also try singing off axis, not straight at the mic but at a slight angle to the mic. I get the same problem with some of my recordings and a friend who actually knows what he's talking about told me to simply back up when I know I'm gonna get louder and if I have the money buy a preamp/compressor to use between the mic and the card. In your case, you would plug the mic into the preamp/compressor then plug the preamp/compressor into your 4track. I'm gonna try it out cause I don't have college tuition bills anymore and I'll let you know how it works out. It cost me $125 US. So for now, just watch the meter while you're singing and if it's looking like it's too far in the red at any point just back up a bit.
Charger, if you can point me in the direction of where I can pick up an Avalon for a couple hundred bucks I'll take two of them! I think they usually run more like a couple thousand.
As far as production, I would not add a thing to your music. I know I've commented in the past that you need a band, but that's just for the mega tour that will follow your first release. In the studio I'd go with just you, a nice guitar, and about $25,000 worth of microphones and preamps. No rearrangements, no rewording the lyrics for the masses, no extra instruments, nothing. The more I listen, I think you hit on something that's already a hit. Hell, I bet if you just burned what you already have to cd and hit the road you'd sell quite a few as is. And it would be a lot more fun than any summer internship.
The honesty and raw emotion you've captured are the secret sauce, not to mention your voice and guitar playing which are as you say 'ace'.

Yeah, it's not a perfect recording, and I know you were just jotting it down while it was fresh, but that's one of the cool things about what you do. It stands on it's own. It's good enough just the way it is. This is excellent songwriting right out of the box. So imagine how good it will be when it's finished!

WATYF. hey nothing wrong with being a perfectionist. I am always having to just let it go. When you do and you look back a week or so later it sounds ace man and you don`t know why you were fussing. The only problem with listening an doing a song over and over is you might start to hate your own voice and song! then well its counter productive i rechon. Anyway, Thankyou for all the good vibes I`ll keep em coming.
As for study I am just about to grad with International business specialising in Marketing Honours. I can`t really find an exchange over there. I wanted to come to Boston becasue I kindof like that place. When ever your in Edinburgh, I`m your man.

erichenryus. Thanks for the mic tips. I think I will also lower the higher level too from now on. Man that would be cool. pack up and go on a road trip round the USA. I have never played on stage yet. My mate who plays the accoustic guitar really well is always trying bring up the conversation of playing in bars with him. He really wants to do it too. Oh yeh, I played before at camp in the summer with the backing of the rest of the swim staff. Lots of tears. (worked as a swim coach and councelor in the summer for the past two summers - best summmers of life so far)
twist - thats really funny. Sometimes I write the lyrics in 6 minutes flat. I dig a good melody. I am so chuffed you like my stuff but I am the worst when it comes to singing radio stuff, I never get the lyrics right at all! ever! This one is absolutely as you said, out of the box. Cheers

What I mean by a guide vocal or part is simply the first track is just you and the guitar playing the entire song start to finish. Then you just add to it. Build it up and usually take out the guide once your finished. Basically the first take. My terminology is probably off but I just always have 1 track guiding the way to the end to start with making it easy to build on. We all do that probably though. Cheers TripleM

I, on the other hand, have to do a billion takes and fiddle with the mix and change the compression and blah blah blah just to get it to sound bearable... It's different when I'm drumming... but when it comes to guitar and vocals, I'm oat of my element.

You know...I kinda agree about the arranging stuff. As soon as you stick an arrangement behind your stuff, you've narrowed your potential audience down, by the genre of the band behind you....as evidenced by stomping feet!!! (but that was an experiment of another topic....). As it is...on your own, you are being liked by just the 'rawness' of a solo gtr and your voice. That will never go out of style, and the audience for that is JUST as huge as any band has seen too. So...remember that. ..or at least take that as MY opinion.
As 'raw' as these tracks are, but as GOOD as they sound though, I still do believe with one of the above opinions....a good studio and the $20,000 worth of mics and preamps 'could' do a lot. Fidelity never hurt anyone ...at least that I can think of now.
you might consider a "professionally" done demo( or CD to sell at gigs, etc) sometime if you have some spare cash laying around (from your gigs with your buddy, for instance). Recording your stuff, in a minimalistic style would be a piece of cake for a real pro, in a pro setting. but..this is getting to be another topic to debate.

Erland - Don't knock your camp "performances". Last year, when I was a first-year councelor, was the first time in my life I played (and actually sung, but I would deny it if anyone ever asks me about it ) in front of a huge crowd, and I really fell in love with it. All of these occassions where "it doesn't really count" are a great place to build up confidence and stage presence. If you do get to the states this summer, drop me a line.
