Wavelab 3.0, but only to do simple editing and encoding, because with these songs, no amount of tweaking made them sound any better-which is why I'm posting these and not some others that did go through the Wavlab grinder-I'd like some suggestions on what would/could actually work here...

-------tea at noon------------

------ohio briars-----------

There's a lot wrong here (ie. too much reverb & mixing FU at end of OB), but I think there's a lot of good, also. I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions...

thanks-let me know if the links don't work.

I'm catching a TON of distortion, throughout all tracks. Intended? Also, reminiscent of Warren Zevon (meets U2?)

I love the sound at 1:11, your vocals (with the distortion) intone this high-pitched phantom sound (like a resonation), it's somethin' else! Also, what I GUESS to be the original sound sounds great... I THINK it sounds full... (:()

Anyway, I'll listen to it again if it got uploaded wrong and such. Love to hear it without the distortion...

Oh. That was for Ohio Briars. Now listening to Tea At Noon...

Also pretty hot, level-wise. Those wood knockers feel too loud, and the tambourine seems out of place (maybe a bit of reverb and pulled down a bit). You can definitely hear the room ~3:00 with that tambourine (sounds REAL clangy, might try another tambourine).

I dig 'em both, btw. Just a little hot for my ears...

I dont know if the vocals are more U2 or more Doors. The distortion is like an old Doors casette I used to have.
It is a good vintage sound there. What reverb are you using on the vocal? I was looking for almost exactly that sound for something. Gimme the dialups!
BTW- Where is the Gem City?

H2H

I listened to "Tea..." - the vocal was a little distorted: was it heavily processed, like with a lot of compression and deesser? -- the though the vocal would have been good with less distortion. I liked the lead guitar sound, although the lead guitar, percussion and vocal didn't feel like they were in the same space -- I think you need to bring them together.

Thanks for listening and especially the comments, guys...

Yeah, the percussion on 'Tea' is bad. The singer was playing those sticks and the tambourine while he sang into the same mic, so not a lot could be done.

As for the distortion, I had some levels too high- except for on Ohio Briars, which came out pretty close to what we had in mind. It should be gritty, although some parts did get scorched a little.

There's no compression or the like on either of these tunes-just reverb (and lots of it).

H2H, which song did you like the vocal reverb on? I probably won't be able to remember, but I'll give it a look-feel and see if I can come up with it. By the way, the Gem City is Dayton, OH! You living in a closet down there in Cincy, or what?:)
