Thanks for all your assistance in helping me upgrade my computer. It has taken a little longer than I expected, but I am ready to purchase my new Sonar software.

Here are my new specs: P4, WinXP, 1 Gig Ram, 2.6Ghz, Delta1010

I have done a limited search on Sonar 2.2 vs 2.2xl, but with no great results.

What are your thoughts...should I buy 2.2 or5 2.2xl?

Go with 2.2XL. The Timeworks EQ and compressor included with XL are well worth the extra $ -- Especially the EQ. Very easy to use and includes a real time spectrum analyzer to help the curve...

I agree 100% !!

me too....go XL. the comp and eq are well worth it.

Do the sums... to get the two Sonic Timeworks Plug-ins separately, CompressorX = $179 USD & Equalizer V1= $249 USD... all up, $428... the difference between the two packages - $120 USD... need I say more.

BTW... how many tracks do you plan on recording at once?

Yeah, unless you already own some high quality mastering plugs and good drum software like Battery, you can't go wrong with XL. Worth every penny.

I have fallen in love with the EQ and DR-008 for results and ease of use. The compressor isn't too shabby either - very subtle, but very effective.

Anybody know if the DR-008 can tap into an external sound module for the sounds?

Not without you doing the "exporting to computer"-job, no....

Thinking......

The DR-008 is a Drum Module... so couldn't you use the Drum Map Manager for specific midi notes to be send to a different module... ie Snare: DR-008, Kick: MIDI Out

Wouldn't that work?

hey i got 2.2 XL and it did come with timeworks compression and EQ. but i pressed something somehow and the EQ dissapeared. is there any way of reinstalling just that without the whole program?

How does 2.2xl sound as far as the bass and drums go?

Do they sound like CD's you buy at the music store?

How do you mean? Are you referring to live tracking drums and bass or are you talking samples?

If it is live tracking, SONAR can do anything that you put at it. If it is samples, of course, the quality of the samples would help in determining the quality of the output. But yes you can get that CD quality.

Yes, the samples. I mean if you record bass, and drums it is the hard ware that is critical.

How do the samples sound?

You must mean bundled DXi / soundfonts sound... Yes, so far I'm fully satisfied with the ones bundled with SONAR 2.2 XL. Like Porter mentioned, it's very subjective, but basicaly, they provided almost everything you need. It's just how you deal with them that counts :) Say sequencing drums track, no matter how good the samples you use, it's worthless without knowing how to "humanize" them (play with velocity, groove, etc.). So I must say they provided you with good tools, it's your turn to make a good thing with them :)
