1x15 cab for guitar?

Hmm im begining to think something must be wrong somewhere. Im talking 9 on both channel and master volumes, and this is a high gain setting too. heres the amp specs:

Oh, so this is a 60W tube amp? Then I agree with the above sentiment that something isn't right.

I'm not familiar with how powerful EL34 output sections should be, but 6 of them in a single output section!?! I would imagine that would blow the doors off their hinges in your room.

Are all 6 tubes glowing orange when the amp is all warmed up? Are any of them either not glowing or glowing any color other than orange? That may be a sign of a blown or defective power tube.

I read a few random reviews of that amp from around the net and lack of volume doens't really seem to be commonly mentioned as a fault of the amp. It might be time to have a tech take a look at it just to make sure its operating correctly.

One other thing: how are you setting your EQ on your amp? If you're scooping out the mids, then you're going to have trouble being heard over a drummer. Mids are the defining frequencies for a guitar and when you attenuate them, you lose all of your definition and get lost in the mix.

Its only got 2 EL34's those specs are wrong even though they've from ashdowns site.

Settings are gain on 8, treble 10, mids 7, bass 6

Hmm it certainly sounds like mine should be louder then but i wonder whats wrong.

No offense intended, but just to be sure the speakers are connected correctly. Assuming you are driving the original speakers which have a combined impedance of 8 ohms:

1. Check to ensure that the IMPEDANCE SELECT switch on the back of the amp is set to 8 OHMS.

2. It is unclear to me why a combo amp would have an INTERNAL SPEAKER jack on the back, as in my day connections to speakers in combo amps were done inside the cabinet. If your if the speaker wires on do indeed connect at the back panel, then be sure that they are not mistakenly connected to the EXTERNAL SPEAKER 16 OHMS jack.

What are the settings on the VOLUME 1 and 2 knobs under MASTER?

Having the speakers connected out of phase would reduce your sound some also, but mostly on the low end, not necessarily the highs or mids.

Something with the tubes was my first thought, also. Are the tubes fairly new? Some amps will run on half power by removing a tube, but I thought that was usually the 6L6 tubes amps that allow for that. 2 EL34's that RMS at 60 watts should be ear splitting loud!

The easiest test to do would be to plug it into another speaker cab that you know is working perfectly, and see if it is a lot louder. If so, then you can suspect the speakers first instead of the tubes.

So true. I've got a 2x12 100 watt combo that I can optionally run at 50 watts. Set to 50 watts, I'm plenty loud to be hear over the drummer (and everyone else! ) at about 40% of total volume...

I'll have a look today, master and channel volume set to around 9. Master volume 2 isnt used.

That's what I thought. If 60w (even SS) isn't loud enough to be heard over the drummer, then the drummer must be Godzilla playing with tire irons on oil drums. We have a pretty loud drummer, and when I turn my 22w Deluxe Reverb up over about 4, everyone starts telling me to turn down.

So im thinking of adding a cab to my Ashdown fallen angel 2x12 60w combo, has anyone tried adding a 1x15 cab instead of a 2x12? Also will adding a cab actually increase volume? (I have to play with the amp on full volume, thought it'd be louder...)
