1st time, personal Studio Q&A?

I am not to sure of this Tascam, from what i have read it seems to be lame.

The Maudios just seem to be more money just because they can interact with Pro Tools directly.

For someone like me who just wants to invest in nice studio monitors, and have a port to put my guitar into, so that I could record and play, and use my programs for sound FX's and stuff.

But I also am afraid of bad drivers with getting any interface

As long as your interface is not locked to proprietary drivers like I believe the NI and Line6 interfaces are. They are causing a few issues for people.

Solid units like Mackie Blackjack Onyx purportedly has driver issues that are circumvented by ASIO4ALL . Same to with the Presonus Audiobox...

Windows 64 is proving tricky for balancing recreational listening with dedicated high end recording.

So far I have been researching Win 64 drivers, and the Mbox Mini, UX2 both have been said to work, if you follow instructions off the manufactures website.

I don't know what other interfaces to get besides one of these two. The ux2 would give me the guitar amps, pedals and FX's, but the mini would allow me to record through Pro Tools!

I know you cant use the UX2 as a an extended ( youtube, skype ) sound card without their podfarm software running. I dont know if that will bug you or not.

I wouldnt get the interface just for PT. Not worth it.

I would like to use my Studio Monitors for listening to music from my files, but if I just have to run the podfarm, then I wouldn't really care.

The studio monitors I was looking at were the Fostex PM0.4 or Alesis M1 Active 520, they would be the highest priced ones that I could afford with a 150-200$ interface.

The alesis seems ok, but I am not sure which ones out there are worth the money?

Honestly, whichever ones you feel comfortable with or like the sound of if you can get the opp to audition them. What matters is that you listen to a lot of music once selected to learn their particular characteristics ( as flat as they all claim to be ).

I have listened to so much music, both critically and incidently on my Behringer MS20's that I could confidently record and mix and have it translate to other systems...and I do. :)

They dont output at ear splitting volumes nor do I want them to. I have neighbours and flatmate considerations.

I do plan on going to guitar center to take a gander around the store, they usually have a handful of studio monitors setup. I have looked through countless interfaces and the only one that has stuck to me was the UX2 I mean its affordable, it will allow me to plug my guitar into it, and play through the studio monitors hooked up to it with the "virtual" cabs, pedals, and I can also do this with a bass that I plan on buying with the 175$ I get next month.

Once I do some more upgrades, I will invest in more equipment, but I am sure this purchase shall be enough while I practice and learn the ways of the force. My next purchase will probably be a Workstation keyboard, I would buy one now but I wouldn't have enough anyways, plus I don't have monitors to support one.

PT isn't anything special.
