1st Mix. New Blues Tune

Not a bad easygoing blues - the mix doesn't seem too bad, though I don't know much about recording and mixing at this point. The guitar break is a little boring at times, but it has a nice biting tone.

But the lyrics? They got nothing to do with the blues. Get another genre.

"Yet will I rejoice in my God
though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food"

It has everything to do with the blues. He's saying no matter how bad things get(thats the blues man) he's still gonna praise the Lord.

Nice job axe!I used to have a 424.It's the boss among 4-track cassette multitrackers.:D

Hey CrazyDoc! Thanks for the reply, man.

The Bible is full of da Blues and those are takeoffs on words by the Prophet Habakkuk. Like David, he went through some very hard times but found that he could praise the Lord even in them.

Not all Blues tunes have a BAD ending ya know and we are a Christian Rock N Blues band. ;)

Glad ya like the music.

Hey,
Decent slow blues. I think it could have been a little slower but taste is taste.
The bass and drums don't really get along in the mix. I think the bass should go down some and the d track up. The cymbals are almost muffled at times. Can you brighten them up?
The lyrics are a tad awkward at times but, I think this is do to the delivery. It is very stiff. I'd recut the vocals and put some emotion into 'em. That will go a long way in improving the overall song.

Maybe cut back on the lead git during fills and push it during the solo. A bit wider pan spread on the rhythm git(s).

That is what popped into my head as I listened. I like the lead git tone. What's your rig and how are you tracking it?

Thanks for the listen. Gotta love da blues!

Hey TheRon!
THat's Jeff on lead on this song and He's using an American Strat and can't remember whether he used His Fender Deluxe Reverb or the Behringer V-AMP2 setup in the Fender Deluxe Model on this tune. He's also singing this one and I think he's still a l'il timid but he's getting better.

On rythymn, I'm using my Axis SS w/standard Fender style trem and my Behringer V-AMP2 in the Deluxe Model and changed the default 410 Cabnet Sim to 112 Blackface. I have the Gain maxed on the V-AMP2 and use pick attack to control volume and distortion. I believe the Geetar's volume was on 5.

As far as the cymbals go, Jeff again cut the highs on mixdown because he thinks Sharon is getting too freakin wild on em. He's gotta learn to let the gal do her thing. lol He's also over using the compressor again and I told him about it Sat.

The basic tracks were recorded Live like this on all our songs.

Guitar Track 1
Yamaha DTXpress Drums Track 2
Bass Direct Track 3
Guitar Track 4

We used a scratch vocal to help keep the tunes together.

We still have the basic tracks and thanks for the listen and the remarks.

PS;

I did discuss some of the issues that you brought up in the Boogie thread with Jeff on Saturday.

Well, it is time to let those vocals out of the bag!!! If you've a drummer, let them drum! I don't see the logic or fun in trying to hide a player with the mix. The song suffers. Sounds like you've a nifty enough set up and folks to jam with. Keep um coming!

You're right on all counts, Bro!

I gave your tune "I Cant Complain" a listen and realized that I had checked it out when you first posted it. That song rocks, man! What did you record it on?

We are working on putting together our 4 song demo CD and will probably have that ready very soon. We have the basic tracks to about 12 songs for the CD we are releasing hopefully next month and it will have 10 to 12 original tunes on it.

Thanks again for your input, Bro!

Ah......I don't have a tune named "I can't complain" but, I'm glad you liked it;). Must be someone else.
Good luck with the CD. Let us know when it is out. I might grab a copy.

Peace,
Theron.
