I tracked drums for 19 songs today, and not a single lock up. Not one. 2.2 would have got me for at least 2, prob 4, with that many songs.

Heres what I am digging:

The mix buss sounds better. Period. Best part of all.

PDC totally rocks. You can tell a difference, especially when multing a vocal through numerous plugs and massive manipulation. Its tighter for sure.

Per track input monitoring button: very nice. Very useful.

Doesnt dropout as easy as 2.2

I kinda like seeing the red waveforms crack open while recording.

The newconsole looks great.

I bought a new white keyboard just for Sonar, and got a super-fine tip Sharpie and made a ton of shotcuts and wrote them all over the keys. Thats great, no more scrolling through commands.
Works like a charm.

What I dont like:
In the new console, I dont like having to scroll through buss sends when there is a huge open area above the strip just being wasted, and when you press the scroll button, you have to press it for each move you cant just hold it and let it scroll through. Then, if you ahve 4 busses open and say, you thought you had 5, and you try to click past the 4th one a window opens up, and that sucks cause it just slows you down.

I cant decide if I like the track inspector or not. Thats up in the air. As of yet, I am neither for nor against it, although it holds potential.

Another think I dont like much is the new look. Its not as clean as Sonar 2, not as pro looking, but it IS easier to see some things than it was before.

Worth $99 in a second though. Highly recommended.

Sounds great, Tubedude! Glad you're enjoying the new mix buss... I'm certainly noticing a difference. We ran some test CD's the other day to check the translation to other systems, and all I can say is: Wow. Fucking C L E A R.

Cakewalk has finally got it's shit together when it comes to summing.

BTW, I'll have a full review/commentary on the mix process posted in a few days.

Where are you able to purchace for this price?

please

dana

I dont think he "bought" it for $99, that is the upgrade price from SONAR 2.

That is the upgrade price from Sonar 2. If you can spend $99 to make EVERYTHING sound better, thats the best upgrade of all time.
Shoulda sounded like that in the 1st place though. Damnit.

Well, my upgrade price is closer to $300 and only about $100 of that are European customs and taxes, so you still get it at half price.

Tombuur,

Can you buy the upgrade direct or in the US and then ship it to yourself?

I have done this b4 with some success....... And other times, I get hit with tax on the way in by Australian customs.....

Not normally with upgrades though, as the shipping company normally marks the export advice as "NO COMMERCIAL VALUE". (Not even the Australian government are stupid enough to send me a bill for 10% of $Nothing!!).

This was the case for Sonar 3.

:) Q.

Querty,

Wish I had known that a little earlier. I guess S3 is already on the way from England. Just know by experience that is it no cheaper from US because of taxes even on the shipping. And to get cheap shipping it might take 8 weeks or so. But if it's "no commercial value" that sure would help. Only you don't know that for sure.

Tracked bass lines for 19 songs tonight, and all the guitars for 4 songs, took 9 hours, no crashes, no problems.
I DONT like the way it bounces mono tracks to stereo if you use a plug though. DOnt like that at all, uses too much space. Can I fix that? Also, auto crossfades were getting on my nerves, how do I fix that, too?
Runs like a charm.

Disable autocross-fade: Hit X. At least in 2.2.

Are you talking about "Apply audio effects?" There should be some sort of tab somewhere to disable it... I haven't found it yet, but I'll keep my eyes open.

As for the AutoCrossfades, you can slide your track pane to the right, and you'll see a button for auto crossfades. It's also got a handy pulldown menu for types of crossfades. If you keep sliding the pane to the right, you'll also get a menu for metering options.

See attachment. :D

[edit] Crap... didn't work. It was a screenshot of the help text for using the Mono/Stereo button in track or console view. Make sure this is set to Mono when applying affects if you want the result to be a mono track.

You know, when you work with computers, text can be copied and pasted... :p

The Sonar 2.2 XL Help file
SONAR has a mono/stereo button in each track module in the Track and Console views, and a global Play in Mono button in the Playback State toolbar. The buttons in the track modules force each track to play in either stereo or mono, but preserve the tracks' pan positions in the stereo mix. The Play in Mono button in the Playback State toolbar flips all the mono/stereo buttons in the virtual main buses to either mono or stereo, which, if you choose mono, causes SONAR to ignore any panning you may have done. If you use more than one virtual main, you can then manually change some of the virtual mains' mono/stereo buttons, if you want.

The Mono/Stereo button in each track forces the track's audio signal to enter any patched plug-ins as either mono or stereo, whether or not the tracks are mono or stereo. This allows you to use either mono effects on a stereo track or stereo effects on a mono track. There is also an Auto setting which lets SONAR automatically send audio to the first plug-in in the required format.

Note: You may lose important stereo data by using mono effects with stereo tracks because your stereo tracks are summed to mono in order to pass through the effect. If you never want your stereo data to be summed to mono, select stereo.

To Use a Track's Stereo/Mono Button
Display the Track view or Console view.
In the track you want to force to either mono or stereo for processing effects, click the Stereo/Mono button to the desired position:
A--This choice lets SONAR auto-select either stereo or mono, depending on what kind of data SONAR finds in the track.
Speaker icon pointing left--This choice means that you manually selected mono for this track.
Speaker icon pointing left and right--This choice means that you manually selected stereo for this track.

;)

Too bad there's no emoticon for giving someone the raspberry!

I tried using control C and printing to a file in XL 2.2 and 3.0. No dice. Wonder why
