I really like the guitar in the background during the chorus. It adds a nice undertone.

The vocals need to be a bit more lively. At first I thought they were fine, but as the song goes on they feel monotonous. They're too dead-panned. I like the lyrics but it's hard to feel them...

I think the background music could also use a break from the James Bond sounding melody once in a while. It played through the whole song, even though it switched between the synth keyboard and choir voices. It needs a bridge somewhere.

thanks...yea i think the vox needs to be louder/compressed more... that was the only thing i felt iffy about when mixing...

Cool track, Teach! :)

Nice to here some keyboard generated loops as an alternative to samples off beats from records.

I liked the cleanliness of the track.

The vocals could come up a tiny bit just so I could make out all the words in the first pass which I was struggling a bit to understand them all.

Cool!

thanks...when i get home i'ma add a lil breakdown too, to break the monotony

why aren't any of you people honest with this guy? this song sucks. you all know it. if you continue to tell him that this crap is good then he will continue to create it. unbelievable.

What are you talking about?

I have no problem telling someone I don't like their music. But it's not very useful to just tell someone 'you're song sucks' and nothing else. Even if you hate a track, you can make suggestions for improvement.

I think this song is fine. I don't love it and wouldn't buy it, but I listened to the whole thing, which is farther than most music gets with me.

Teacher don't listen to that shit. Do what you do and be proud of it.

A-men to that.

We're dealing here with a plain and not too original troll, guys.

Best to just ignore him as trolls feed off of conflict and crave the attention their mommies never gave them as children.

Cheers! :)

Yeah this is nice teach I agree with the other guys it's someting about the vocal they need to stand out more since he is spitt'n calm maybe just turned up a bit or a little more compression maybe?

thanks for all the props guys...i should have the new revised version up by tonite...

I enjoyed listening to your song. Thanks for putting it on the net. Let us know when you revise the vocal level.

Hey Teacher

Did you use Sonar for this? Do you use any 'mastering software'? I guess I should just ask what your whole set up is!

thanks,
Bill

sonar is used for production and most of the times tracking

WHen i'm ready to mix i omf it to samplitude 7(cuz its more stable then sonar in IMHO and has more audio features)

the vox was tracked using a CAD m9 into an rnp, rnc, and speck asc eq to HD

my fave plugs to use are
PSP Vintage warmer : i use it for submixes to give my melodies some balls, some times for drum submixes too and Mix Bus

PSP MasterQ: i use it for vox only cuz its to CPU intensive to use any where else sounds fabolous though

Ren Comp & RenVox: i use these in conjunction only for vox

Sonalksis EQ: use on vox primarily in conjunction w/masterQ and anything else i feel needs a high quality eq

UAD Dreamverb: on 2 aux sends. I pretty much send it to every channel(except drums) to give each track a different depth.

Waves SI Imager: to place each melody in a different place in the mix to help give the track some space...make it sound 'wider'

Waves mutli tap delay: on an aux send to give the sense of more space on certain insturments

UAD 1176 & Pultec: kick mult to give it more impact, 1176 on snare mult to give it more snap and impact, pultec on bass to make it fatter

everything else i'll use the stock efx in Samplitude cuz they sound pretty damn good

on the mix bus i'll put a UAD Cambridge, PSP vintage warmer or Sonalksis Compressor(just dled the demo this thing seriously rocks! IMO) and a timeworks Mastering Compressor

thats pretty much my mix setup

OK.

The beat is good.

The singing is good.

But, the two are disjointed and out of sink.

You need to groove with the beat. Listen to that beat and groove with is man.

Then it will be a good song, not until then.

Redo it and post it again. Thanks.

what do you mean? are you saying the flow/rhythm of the rhyme doesn't go with the beat? the break down every 8 bars during the verse ain't doing it for you? what?

btw its not me spitting but i personally think he rhymed/vibed/delivered perfect to it well except for being a bit too dynamic... i guess YMMV

mix sounds ok, I suppose.

However, I can NOT stand this kind of music. I find it hard to find the talant in the backing music and the rap style is very monotone and unoriginal to me. It seems the music could be whipped out on a keyboard workstation, left in loop mode, and just improvise some scat rap on top.

But..I'm not going to go on and whine about musical tastes.

The kick, etc... all sounds well balanced. While not to "up" on this genre, it seems the musical production is very linear, and doesn't seem to build or get stronger at any points, with the exception when the music kinda drops out behind the vocals. But the keyboard hits on the downbeat, really gets old to me after awhile (like really quick), and some ear candy would go a loooong way to make this much more interesting (to me). It seems the section at :30 could be the same at :59 as 1:45 as 2:34.... In other words, as you skip around the song, it all sounds the same with the exception of different lyrics...which btw, to me sound presented the same way from beginning to end.

I suppose I basically just did complain about rap music, but I tried to explain my reasons as best as possible.

As I said, I can't really comment too much on the mix aspects, but the fidelity for the most part seems very good. It's the production (or lack of) that bothers me the most... same thing from beginning to end.

thanks for posting. It's good to read and hear stuff that I am not familiar with and see what is going on outside of the rock I am under!!
;)

i didn't see you say anything about the lyrics?i can only assume you didn't pay enough attention and that in my opinion is what makes this song...
