Is there a big difference between 1g ram and 2g ram? Im gonna be recording on my laptop. Any suggestions for which to get? I have a firepod.

Depends. Are you going to use alot of samples/libraries? Than yes, get as much ram as your laptop can handle. Laptop hard disks are not fast enough for diskstreaming, so any libraries that you might want to use will have to be loaded into the ram completely. If you're just going to recordig audio tracks, I dunno, I think 1 gig will be enough. Plugins don't have that much to do with RAM, only the actual audio data does, so depending on the number of tracks your going to be recording, my guess is 1 gig will cover most. Mixing is more dependant on your CPU though.

More is always better. For a laptop I would want at least 1gb of ram. Laptop ram is yummy expensive. lol
My desktop has 1 gb of ram and runs pretty fast if I do say so. I never realized how much ram impacts the processing power of a computer until I starting building computers. 1gb is plenty though. I know a dude that uses 256mb of ram on his laptop (which was good when he bought it) and makes some pretty good music using cubase le and fruity loops as a plugin (so both open at the same time...) plus soft synths and other sounds and plugins. To me thats just amazing, he must be patient, I dunno..
But 1gb is plenty. If you can afford 2gb then do it. More ram is always better.

It depends on why you need it. Again, will you have a ton of samples on your computer? If your just recording then one gig is fine. But if you have extra cash lying around and you labtop can handle it then why not. System ramm requirements are going up and up! I only had 128 mb untill about now because i got a stick of 256 mb, so im way behind you... i dont know about laptops but tigerdirect.com is where i got my stick...check it out, i think i saw 1 gig for only 90 bucks man!

i record 8 in 2 out with 1 gig and its plenty... i only run into proplems with the processor (2.4 too many efx- on the crazy tracks)... i havent really felt the need for another gig of ram yet.. though im sure i will in a couple years...

The best reason to get more ram is to reduce calls to the hard drive for data that gets written into paging files. More ram = longer hard drive life.
