Speak for yourself jamal...

I have a $50K Pro Tools TDM setup running into my SSL console in my cathedral sized studio, complete with iso-booths for vocals and treated rooms for the drums/ochestral productions....

oh no... wait....

that's in my dreams.

you're right... I'm doin' this in my bedroom too.

they sound good to me:) The vocal sounds like it's in a different room from the rest of the mix, kinda muffled, too.

Nice drum loops you have there. Good job on programing them. I think your recording skill is good, but the mixing part is, subjective, and not exactly something I would agree with.

The music isn't exactly my taste, but I surely appreciate the arrangements and writing.

good job, regardless of your age

Great stuff, but would have liked to hear a whole song. Absolutely hated being directed to a buy this album page. I may as well tell you two words that will make things better for you here--NowhereRadio. No spam, no hype--nice. See, if you want to share music here, put up a whole freaking song for gosh sakes. You're very good--welcome to the board. Sorry, but this made me feel conned. If I tried to pull this, I'd have 50 people jumping down my throat here.

I'm sure you'll figure it out here, and I can tell you are very excited about your album and all. I would be excited too if I were you. I'm just saying this is NOT the place to try and sell your wares. Its a place to share the wares with other like minded home recording folks. Thats all. Just hang here and read some posts, etc. You'll get the feel for what we are doing. Its all good, bro. Welcome to the clinic!

Yeah... what he said...

This isn't a self-promotion forum... it's a mixing clinic.

not to jump down your throat or anything... I'm sure you mean well... (or something like that... :p) but if you came here you get a few more "fans"... well....

get in line....

we've got plenty of talent to go around.

I probably should have linked to my MP3.com page...

Well i hope the end result will be fans... but only because I KNOW you guys are just gonna give some amazing input... ;)

alright... enough preaching to the newbies...

on to the songs.

The recordings are definitely decent. The drums are programmed well. Not too "busy"... nice samples. Guitars don't sound too bad. (can't say I dig all the tones you use... but such is taste) Vocals are a little low in the mix on some tunes (e.g. "Fade").

I'd say over-all, good stuff (mixes)... Didn't quite find a tune that "hooked" me... (and I know what genre you're going after... I've listened to all the bands in your "Influences" list... but, once again... that's just taste.

If you want more specific input... please pick a song that you would like to have critiqued in detail. Most times, people post a single song for review... not an entire album... that kinda makes it hard to be specific. :p

hey guys... I finished an entire album's worth of work. I recorded it all on my computer at home... I played and programmed all the instruments and sounds and vocals.... I think it's pretty good for a 19yr old... feedback would be nice...

http://www.bandofapathetics.com

What type of software did you use? What type of plug ins? What type(brand etc...) of guitars did you use?(electric and acoustic)

What did you master the tunes with? What kind of drums were used? What type of mics did you use? What kind of amp(s) did you use? What type of Bass guitar did you use?keys?

Thats the kind of stuff people are interested in around this BBS.If you're willing to type out a lot of this info that will help us better understand your situation and our own im sure you'll gain maybe 3 fans.LOL.....you might even sell ONE album by posting on this board.LOL.That would be great wouldnt it?

Hey... he plays a Taylor... I gotta give him credit just for that.

(is it just me, or do my posts make up 50% of this whole freaking thread? )

:D

man... after all this hazing... if he still sticks around, he may make a pretty decent addition to the clinic....

that is... if he can get over himself.

;) :D

Re: Re: 19yr old records entire album on his PC in his room....

Well I post on other boards too, and so I typed up all my recording info and put it on my web site so I didn't have to keep repeating myself. :) I'll copy and paste, though, for your convenience... if you're interested in one particular song, let me know and I'll type the specifics for that song...

Instruments:
Taylor 314-CE acoustic guitar
Paul Reed Smith Santana SE electric guitar
Gibson Les Paul Studio (this is Mark's, but he lets me use it to record sometimes)
Washburn DC 10CE/B acoustic (used on older recordings)
Applause acoustic bass (also Mark's)
Yamaha electric bass (this is my church's, but I've used it on some recordings)
Casio CTK-501 keyboard (it's cheap and crappy, but I use this for MIDI synth stuff and it works ok)
Marshall JCM2000 DSL 401 guitar amp

Recording Gear/Software:
Home-built PC
Sonic Foundry's ACID software
Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum(internal) sound card
Shure SM-57 microphone
Johnson J-Station
T-Racks and Cool Edit Pro software
AKG K 270 S Headphones
Fostex SW-1.1 speakers and subwoofer
Marshall MXL 2003 Condenser Mic
M-Audio Audio Buddy microphone pre-amp

The Process:
Everything is recorded one track at a time on my PC using ACID software. The only microphone I used on my old recordings is my SM-57 for vocals and instruments. Now I use my MXL 2003 for acoustic guitar and vocals. I also use a Audio Buddy pre-amp on my newer tracks. (I acquired the MXL 2003 and Audio Buddy at the same time). Drums and percussion are programmed from drum loops and samples found from ACID loop CDs or internet sites. I use the J-Station for running 99% of my bass and guitar tracks directly into my sound card (I use my S/PDIF digital inputs and outputs). Occasionally I will mic my Marshall amp for guitar tracks. Occasionally I will run a bass guitar directly into the sound card. I create piano/synth/strings from running my keyboard into the MIDI input and using built in MIDI "voices" on the computer to change the sound. (it's a crappy Circuit City casio keyboard). All effects are added from ACID's built-in software effects (except weird guitar effects[phaser, flanger, etc] are usually added from the J-Station). I mix everything down in ACID, and for the final mixes I master everything using T-Racks and/or Cool Edit Pro.
