Hey Greg, whats up!
Yeah, I kinda screwed the bass guitar right from the beginning, was not totally happy with the tone I had but recorded anyway, and all the polishing in the world cant help that turd! Anyway, messed a little with the mix today and wonder if at least the kick is a little more under control , snare has a little more meat, and the turd of a bass track is more evident...
Here is the latest mix:

Kick *still* pumpy. Snare still thin. Bass still barely negligible (I swear I can hear it a little this time though). I think you said these were sampled drums, so maybe this is as far as you can take it.

Curious about the kick pump though, I suspect the compression you're using isn't suitable for drums (attack too loose?). Have you tried doing some EQ notches on the drums in addition to some light compresssion? Raise only the 40-100hz band a few decibels?

What's your playback environment? Monitors, headphones, pc speakers?

Yep, in the new mix the snare is very forward & thin.
The bass is anonymous verging on MIA.
Strange issues for a Queepy/variaxman mix!
