Yesterday, my son and I went to Luckenbach (TX, yes, like the song), and participated in the breaking of the world record for most simultaneous guitar players -- the count was 1,853. We were in a sort of creekbed basin, and my son and I were near the bottom. We were being led by a group on a stage that was probably 60 feet above where I and my son were standing.
We played two songs: predictably, "Luckenbach, TX", and Woodie Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land". The strumming pattern was well coordinated on the first song, and more diverse on the second song. We came up with a pretty powerful sound on the first song, I guess because of the synchronized strumming. We overpowered the PA (which I'm sure could have been turned up louder, but whatever) at some points, and there was a stanza where they turned it off and it was just the acoustic guitars and all of us singing (with a disproportionately large percentage of people who could actually sing - but not me
).
Sounded cool!! I don't know if they'll list all of us in the Guinness Book of World Records - I suppose not. Here's the web page about it: http://www.voicesofagratefulnation.org/
Was anyone else there? Sorry I missed you if so.
