Hi,
Ive completed recordings and I'm looking for a good preset effect that would be good for mixdown. I guess something with compression any suggestions generally.
Also I only have one expansion board should I rush out and get another?
Thanks for the help. --Billy

That's a tough question.

It depends on what it needs. Compression, delays, flange, verb, What does your mix need? Maybe it's ready for mixdown. Did you use effects to disk?
I have the 2 boards and an external Lexicon that has a digital out that I send to the digital in of my VS1680.

Sometimes this is'nt enough in my opinion.
The effect you use most at mix down is a little compression about 3:1 to kind of glue it all together. Then I also use a hall or room that I put it all through after effecting everthing that needs it individually.

You should try and get a hold of Recording Magazine's Playback CDs. They all have mixing clinics. I've been an avid reader of that mag since it's inception in 1987. It's a good friend for the home recordest. Another one is Home Recording. They always have text articles to help you else as well.

The MTK patches on the 1680 are meant for mixdown and mastering. EQ, compression, dithering, bass cut etc.etc.

Patches 210 to 228

Thanks for the help. I am a beginner in all this so I'm trying to learn as I go along. I may not know what my mix needs or actually what can help it.
So I was hoping there were some presets that would give me somewhat of a strting guidline. I will check out the 210 - 228 and see how that helps.
The only effects to disc I used on the initial tracks were a direct bass sound and a vocal treatment. I used them as inserts.

My next question though is: Is it best to insert my mixdown effects on the recording mixdown tracks 15- 16. Or use the effect playing out of all the other individual tracks? --Billy
