I just bought two RME ADI 8 Pro's.

Can someone direct me towards what I should connect them to? My guess was proabbly to stick with RME and go with the hammerfall but are there better or cheaper options out there? Thanks.
Also, I didn't see many posts on ADI8 Pro out there. Does anyone else own a pair?

The RME products are very reliable and endurance tested.
I wouldn't go with anything other for ADAT transfers.

Sorry for bringing up my own old thread but I just bought a used hammerfall 9652 (not DSP).

I read through the manual but it should arrive tomorrow. There are a few different ways I can connect this to my ADI-8 Pros. Should I use ADAT toslink cable or TDIF cable. Also what kind of cable do I need for the word clock connections or better yet, do I even need to connect the word clocks?

And finally is there anyway to use my Boss GT-6's spdif out connection to record because that would be really nice! I know this is swaying off the target of the post but I thought it would be nice to throw it in here.

You want to use multiple ADI8's right?

- use toslink optical. The TDIF is used for connection to Tascam gear (like a 88), a hammerfall cannot use this.
- if you use more than 1 ADI8, then it may be interesting to use wordclock. Let one of your ADI's be the source, connecting to your other ADI and the hammerfall. You will need 75 Ohm video cable (bnc-bnc) and a T piece. Termination is internal in the hammerfall, so put this last and put the other adi8 in non terminated mode (a tiny switch at the back if I remember well).
- if you do not want to use wordclock, you will have to make one ADI source, and then let the other ADI and the hammerfall sync on external ADAT.
- with the hammerfall comes a breakout cable that gives you spdif IO. You will need to change the clock source in the driver then, but that is no big deal.

Where do I get one of these BNC cables, radio shack?

I think it should work out well with the two ADI's and the hammerfall. I can't wait to actually use them, I read the manuals at work today... actually I think that was the only thing I did at work today.

Similar to what Havoc said, you can run one ADI as master, W/C out to the second ADI, the sound card and daw get clock from the master ADI via light pipe. On playback mode, the ADI stays master and re-clocks in the D/A mode.
The clock stays cleanest right at the A/D and D/A's where it counts.
You'll likely switch the sound card to SPDIF master if you're importing stuff from the Boss.
Bet you're gona love that setup. Also cool are the duplicate set of ADAT outs, the 'copy' mode, ect, ect, ect...

That would be a good start. Or any other place that sells audio/video equipment like a hifi store.

OK. I went to Radio Shack and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. I even brought in the manual to show them 75ohm BNC to BNC connectors and a t-connector. They didn't have anything except single bnc connectors to be soldered as you want.

I guess I will try elsewhere for the cables but let me get this straight. I need:
1 BNC BNC 75ohm cable?
1 T-connector?
Set one ADI as master, the hammerfall and #2 ADI slave. And that's it right?

And when I want to export stuff from the BOSS, I can attach the breakout cable phono plugs to the the spdif connection on the boss? Any idea what connection/cable is needed for that? The manual on the boss states it as EIAJ CP1201, S/P DIF

I have another question about midi but I will ask in another thread.

Yep, that's a good shopping list. Give some hifi equipment dealers a go. They normaly have quite a selection of cables and adaptors. Otherwise, an electronics spare part shop would be able to help you.

For spdif you need a 75 Ohm coax cable but with rca cinch (like a audio interconnect). Again most hifi shops will have it. Make sure you have a 75 Ohm, not a regular audio cable.
