I assume this is what I'd need to accomodate a 12-track mixing board. Can anyone recommend a good one for Macs?

You could get a Delta 1010 and a Delta 1010LT...or two 1010's.

If its a modern mixer see if you can get an ADAT(or something comparable) upgrade for it

I like the look of the MOTU, but I can't seem to find a price or anywhere to buy it...

They run around $1400 USD at Zzounds. I'm sure Sam Ash, Sweetwater, Musicians Friend and the likes also sell them for about the same price.

I believe I'll attempt to scrape together the funds for the MOTU. It looks ever so lovely! :)

To be clear, I don't need anything else to use, MOTU, correct? No sound cards or anything? I mean I have one, but it's just a basic 1-input one. I assume it uses FireWire?

Ya

Make sure you check what firewire chipsets are recommended, some firewire interfaces have issues with certain chipsets and its worth looking up

The 24 I/O uses a PCI card (Edit: that's included) to interface the rackmount unit to the computer.
The only MOTU interfaces that are FireWire are the 828, 828mkII, 896, 896HD and the Traveler.

Also, the MOTU would be your soundcard. So to speak. You could likely still keep the soundcard that you have to use for games, operating system sounds and whatnot.
