Anyone have any opinion about the $1089 rack mounted Neve preamps at Brent Averill Enterprises?

detuned6, your the reason manufacturers put silly windows in their "tube" preamp. Listen with your ears, not your eyes.

What I dont get is why the 1073's are priced much higher. The 1089 and 1073 are electrically the same, and sound the same at the same gain settings.
Additionally, I would never spend that kind of money on a preamp, when there are preamps that are priced much less that will do the same thing. Look into Vintech and Great River.

I wish the Vintech were available in a single channel model. For those of us who can get by with one channel, it would be a wonderful option.
The Averill models are available in a single channel, and, thus, can be more affordable. One drawback I heard about these Averill preamps is that they come in a chassis with modules and wires hanging awkwardly out of the back.

no actully your wrong, it would be nice if it had LED reading or overload light, or bass rolloff . - im sure it sounds sweet, but......................thats alot of cash.(for MY budget)

The 1 thing I noticed was The Model 2254 Classic Neve Comp/Limiter are original Neve modules that have been refurbished and modified with even faster release times.
Alas, at $3800 a slight more beyond my reach!
I'm more inclined to invest in the 2-chan pre with original API electronics @ $1449 with their own powersupply!
My brothers producer has a pair of these and the pad on these babies are awesome. Talk about what a pre-amp really is!

I think for that kinda money and you want the Neve name... get the Amek dual channel 9098 mic pre... $1500 street. Ruperts signature right on the front, MS coding and everything.

The Amek is nice and bright, has plenty of lights and MS decoding... worth $1500...

neve preamps are awesome in order to get that oasis drum sound. that and some analogue tape
have a listen to some other pre's before you spend that much money. if it's the neve sound you're after, go for it

There is a reason they are expensive...
I have a pair of the Brent Averill Neve 1272 pre's. I got them used (mint) with phantom power and power supply for $1300. That is some of the best money I have spent on my home studio.
You don't need lights with these things. You just use your ears.
Unlike cheaper pre's when you overdrive them it starts subtle and is really pleasing to the ears. They are the sound of so many classic rock recordings. No amount of hype from any other manufactures can make them sound like Neves.
I think my Neves are a bargin. Unlike the econo-boxes that are being marketed as mic pre's my Neves will not lose their value. In fact they may be worth more in 10 years than I paid for them. At the very least they will hold their value.
And they sound incredible...

Urei's are just totally amazing. I have 2 1176's which I use on lead vocals. i need to get the pots on it sorted out though.

Well, we're talking about 2 different beasts here. The 1176 is a limiter and the 1108 is a preamp. I'm sure they'll be pretty cool. Who's racking them for you?

Yeah,thats right those are limiters!!duh! Well,mine is going to be racked by a guy named John Nau. He builds custom amps.etc. Very well respected in upstate area. Done a lot of work on things for me. I wonder what the 1108 will be worth racked? will it compare well to neve or API?
