if you had 10,000 to start a home studio from scratch what would u buy like every thing for the hole setup

Answer partly depends on what space you already have to use it in. 10K is a pretty good setup amount, and things like physical accoustics and sound isolation enter the equation.

The basics of any home studio include mics, cables, multi-track recorders, mixing gear, monitors, effects, and an assortment of accessories.

If it were me, I'd take the standalone digital recorder route with something like a 24 track deck, a few grand of good mics, and the rest spread over monitors and other accessories.

First......

Hand joro $10,000.00

Next......

wait two days...

I'll spend it at least that quick....

a couple of lap dances thrown in to boot :D

I'd spend $9,500 on the control room walls, ceiling and floor.

Then I'd get a tascam portastudio 424, a pair of NS10's, and a couple of SM57's.

From there I would upgrade the studio one piece at a time.

I would buy a big friggin Phonic mixer and an Alesis 3630. Top it off with a Sound Blaster 16 and a computer mic. Then all I need are some walkman earphones and a lava lamp.

The rest I'd definitely give to Joro.

$10K Budget

I would buy an Echo Layla, Samplitude 7.0 software, Rode NT1000 mic, a great mic pre (which I can't mention), ART SLA1 stereo amp, Pentium IV with lots of RAM, your favorite speakers & head phones. Start off with 8 tracks and it will be easy to upgrade to 16, 24, 32, etc. just by adding more Layla 8 track units.

yeah

Yeah , I been thinking this over... its not me who has the 10 ,000 its my best friend whos doing this , and im going to be able to record there :)

Okay, toss me $10K and this is what I'll buy....

DAW Interface/Converters, Effects Processing
Kurzweil KSP8, Kurzweil RSP8, and Kurzweil KMLN (mLan) $2.3K + $.46 + $.56K

Monitoring
Event Project Studio 8 monitors $.65K

Preamp, EQ, compression (4 channels)
Toft Audio ATC-2 $1K
FMR RNP, FMR RNC (x2) $.47K + $.35K

Samples, other goodies
Korg Triton Rack, and Triton EXBMLAN (mLan) $1.45K + $.6K

Microphones
Sennheiser MD-441, Cascade VX20, Studio Projects C4 (pair), M-Audio Solaris $.6K + $0K (incl. w/KSP8) + $.32K + .3K

DAW
Intel P4 2.8GHz/800MHz FSB w/1GB RAM, dual 80GB HDD, dual head display, dual 17" monitors, CD-RW/DVD, Firewire $.8K

Misc
Cabling $.14K (actually, I have no idea how much you will have to lay out for this item, I just had $140 left over).
N-Tracks recording software (no money left!!)

I have no idea how many people know that the KSP8 can be used as a DAW interface (provided, of course, that the DAW has firewire and the Kurzweil has the mLan expansion), but it has eight channels, great converters, and world class effects processing. Really a great all around uber-processor.

I sure hope that mLan continues to make inroads in the industry, and I sure wish that the Yamaha 01X didn't have so many issues. Seems like a great idea, somewhat poorly executed.

What have you come up with?!?
