LSD, (Lead Singers Disease)

Every band Ive been in has had problems all stemming from the LS. Either not learning songs when the rest of the band has or just outright refusing to do songs the rest of the band wants to do, not because they cant sing them, jsut because they dont personally like the song. they think they are a rock star, when they just played in front of like 25 people doing covers. They are a equal instument as the rest of the band is in my opinion. In the end, They always seem to be the one causing problems, and are usually very blind to anyone elses feelings.

anyone have some stories to tell?? get it off your chest if you feel the need.

this should be good.

I have experienced NTDD alot more.

I agree. Too many underqualified drummers out there.

Also, lead singer takes a huge amount of the live pressure. Sorry, (s)he is what most people take notice of. If they don't want to do the song - the audience will notice, and you'll all suffer. World's full of guitarists and bass players and keyboard folk. Good singers - who can also hold an audience - are gold dust. (I'm not a singer).

So I completely disagree with you. :)

I joined the last band on the condition that I was the fuckin boss and what I say pretty much goes. The singer has been a dick a couple of times and I just told him like it is. He'll learn what I tell him to or I'll sing it. Eventually I'll be singing everything, and we won't need him anymore.

Noted. However, the audience also notices when the drummer is off beat.

Had a lead singer who didn’t want to learn covers. When we tried explaining that covers are a necessary evil (at that time) he decided that he was going to get a music stand and put the lyrics up there because that is what Michael Stipe of REM did on their Monster Tour. 2 weeks later I saw another band and there was no singer onstage. Went to the bathroom and there was the singer, hiding in a stall with a cordless mic in one hand and lyric sheet in the other. So I guess having the music stand up wasn’t so bad.

We got another singer with not only LSD, but a drinking problem. He decided halfway through a song there was a girl he wanted to meet and the guy running the sound board came up and finished the song and did the next two. When he did come back he starting swapping the chorus’ and verses’ around in the song. I think he was too inebriated but he may just wanted to see if the band was on their toes.

Then he would introduce us as “his guitar player” “his drummer” etc… We’d been around for a year before he joined. He was the new guy.

The best one was a drummer who told us quote “keeping the rhythm isn’t my job” unquote. The next practice the bass player decided to move his kit and put a drum machine in its place.

The worse thing is, and it doesn’t matter if it a singer, guitar player or drummer, is when they’re playing well but someone from another band shows up and all the sudden they start showing off. Either throwing in fills, leads, trying to hit that high note. Just trying to do stuff to impress that other musician (who thinks you suck anyway) that’s way over their head.

Hmmmm

That is something I call Stapp disease, named so after the king of ego Scott Stapp....

I know this is the "guitar" board-- but I'd have to say that asshole guitar players have broken up the majority of bands I've been in. Course, I am an asshole guitarist, so I can talk.

Do the victims of this disease uncontrollably go into the "crucifixation" pose as well?

Q: What's the difference between a Lead Singer and God?

A: God doesn't think he's a Lead Singer.

:p

I've ran into this occasionally in bands. In the band I'm in now, my lead singer is female, so it makes it a bit worse. If you criticisize her, she takes it personally and makes a big deal of it. We've had a bit of a problem lately where she was floundering on coming up with vocal lines on a few songs. I pretty much told her that the band was a democracy and that if she didn't pull her weight, there'd be problems. The thing is is that she is incredibly talented (probably moreso than any other member in the band, including myself), so I was taking a bit of a risk. However, she straightened up and did her part, and things couldnt be better.

I think part of it is the fact that singers (if they are truly talented) don't really need the same practice that other musicians routinely need. Then, the ego will rear it's ugly head if they don't feel like doing some repetition.

i had a bit of LSD in bands before...

and a bit of CFAGSD (cant find a good singer disease)

also a bit of IWMBITBAACD (i want my brother in the band at all costs disease)

I've experienced DDS a lot more than I like remembering'

DDS= "Drugged Drummer Syndrome"

There's an old saw: if you can't get the [guitarist, bassist, drummer, vocalist] you want without also adding their best [friend, lay, relative, whatever], don't do it.

I just read your repley to this message , you know i really cant understan why you would have a problem , with the ego you must have im suprised yo uhave somebody that would take you at all.
I ahve benn a member of a small band that has total beentogether for just about 2 years . We started off as a 2 piece accoustic group, then a friend who has never picked up an insterment , we tought him a couple of notes on a bass we had hanging around , and he took off like wildfire, , then out one day while out plowing snow I ran into an old friend that I knew played guitar and invited to come and jam ,
we have 2 people that sing , 2 guitars one of the people that sing is the drummer , and a bass player that sings , the name of our band is "Just For Fun"

if somebody doesnt want to sing a song then we have some one to take that song over or lead ect..
everyone forgets why they play music or get in a band , its for the music , not to be someones boss , its all "JUST FOR FUN ", so get over the dumm shit
