i beleive in the bang for buck thread which brought acclaim to the ecm 800 somebody mentioned that there was pretty much only one factory which produced 1/4" condensor mic capsules, thus being a large part of the reason the behringer mics weren't considered too bad.....

does this theoretically mean you would be hard pressed finding a bad condensor with a 1/4" capsule?

Panisonic is the leader in manufacturing small 1/4" omni capsules, and I wrongly assumed that the Behringer probably used that capsule. Turns out the capsule is made in the Phillipines but it's still a fairly decent 1/4" capsule, very similar to the Panasonic.

So, I was wrong, but it turned out ok in the end, since the mic DOES have a pretty good and consistent capsule; it's just not a Panasonic.

And no, some 1/4" capsules designed for answering machines and mini cassette recorders aren't very good. They're just very cheap to make.
