$1,000 in my pocket, what do I do?

You have all of that awesome shit and you use VDrums?!

... Buy a drum kit.

previous poster said the same thing: I think you guys are right!

I love the speed to decent tracking that I get with the Vdrums, but there is nothing like a real kit

BUT it's more that $1k because I need good drum mics too!

Which crowds are we talking about, the crowds that thought it was OK to buy houses they couldn't afford in the 1990s because they couldn't put 2 and 2 together by themselves, the crowds that believe Rush Limbaugh is actually serious about what he's spewing and not just an Andy Kaufman-esque radio act that's laughing all the way to the bank simply for playing to people's ignorance, the crowds that believe the finalists in American Idol are actually something special and not fairly commonplace talent beacuse they have never actually experienced the musical community outside of Snooze Radio, the crowds that used to believe that the Earth was the flat center of the universe because that's what's easiest to believe, or the crowds who believe that truth is a matter of majority public opinion because they'd rather "fit in" than follow reality?

G.

Exactly SSG. Which crowds indeed. So, the bigger the cross section the better. Then, of course, its crucial to assess the value of that opinion.

After you have done all that.

You don't have to act on any of that "wisdom" ;)

Who knows where else the OP has posted this query. I am sure he is avoiding manufacturers forums though.

The problem, C, is the value of that opinion approaches nil.

Who cares what other people think? Especially en mass. I might care what this one person or that team of folks think about a particular question or subject on which their opinion actually matters, but "public opinion" carries no importance, because by definition and by the laws of averages, the general public as a whole is knowledgeable about nothing.

The bigger the cross section, the more meaningless the response. The only thing public opinion is good for is defining public opinion.

Okies, you have forced me to go back and address some ( quite possibly unintentional ) straw men arguments in your first post.

Flat earth: Historically, compliance has been a matter of survival for most group members. I am sure if you could travel back, pull some smart observer aside, guarantee them protection or anonymity and then ask them if they felt the earth was flat - their intelligent response would not be an assertion of yes or no.

Behavioural Economics and housing: If you ask someone with a vested interest, no doubt you will get a loaded response.

Talkback Radio and TV: It depends on the crowd. If you go to a fansite you know the outcome.

American Idol: This is just crowd hysteria and cheering the possibility that anyone could be up there. The adulation continues until the last audience member has left the building. Rarely does it translate to meaningful sales.

As I stated in my second post in this thread. I am sure the OP is not posting on manufacturers forums - meaning, by posting in a ( hopefully ) neutral environment he may be able to gauge a general feeling and then investigate options ( or not ).

Crowd Wisdom is meant to be a gauge based on individual thought not an authoritative measure based on consensus.

It doesn't take a crowd for me to know three things:

- First, that CFox and I will never change each other's minds on this subject.

- Second, that this subject has nothing to do with home recording.

- Third, that this subject wanted to end and should have ended in a natural end a page and over a week ago anyway.

Further debate on the matter here is therefore uncalled for, and I'm not going to continue it. If CFox wants the last word, it's happily his for the taking.

BOOOOOM!!!!! hot damn. take notes sirs, if you want to end a seemingly endless and off-topic debate on hr, this is how it's done.

:)

*substances*, skanks, penicillin, a few good books, digital camera for photos/audio/video, hold back at least enough to cover bale on a misdemeanor charge.

Faggotry of the highest order. Dumbest debate ever.

Expressing opinions and asking for them in anything but the most formal and professionally organised sense is UNACCEPTABLE!

I like glen, but what I'm reading from this and a few other posts of late is that people should have their fingers cut off and their vocal chords removed because by default nothing they have to say or ask is worth shit, unless they fulfill the following criteria....

1) Is Southside Glen

2) Is no younger than Southside Glen.

Sorry Glen. You and me have always got on reasonably well, but the fact is, this is how you're coming across.

Not all of us 'young people' are douchbags with nothing to contribute. You don't have to listen, but you don't have to tell people to shut up either.

People have a right to express and ask opinions. People have a right to share experiences. If you don't like it, just don't get involved. You'll find it takes a lot less effort to just walk away than start some longassed diatribe about how inexperienced people are and how they don't deserve a voice because of it.

Ah....that explains your post in the other thread about stereo drums....

Legion needs a coffee ard a good stroke this morning. You're going from thread to thread with a nasty attitude.

I like it!!!! :D

Hijackers, I demand as the OP that you allow this thread to die!

Are you new here? How dare you go against the Glen? He is an internet pro! Blaspemer!

I'm sorry that you feel that way.

G.

Dude, I remember when you used to write these longassed posts, and they were about the only longassed posts on the forum I read, because they were full of useful information. A hell of a lot of us appreciated the time you put into answering questions not only in detail, but in such a way that the layman can understand.

I'm betting that like a lot of us, you've got slightly disenchanted by the fact that it's the same damn questions everyday, nobody using the search engine, just asking what the best mic for hip hop is for under $100 or not understanding the difference between mono and stereo, right? Same old shit. Every fucking day. No one learinng a damn thing or even trying to work stuff out for themselves.

And that's fair enough, but you've gone from good old rational, knowledgeable Southside Glen to Blue Bear, shooting down guys who don't have your level of experience, both in the recording field and in life.

Don't go all blue bear on us. That guy was a fucking douche and no help to anyone. Until all this, you were an approachable guy, but debates like this bring that kinda shit into question. Was it really neccessary to enter into a big debate over whether someone should put something to a vote? What is the harm in it? No one is forcing you to participate.

I know that reading through these forums can be frustrating at times. There are so many people who just want all the answers right away, don't want to put any effort in, think there's some secret formula to a good mix or whatever. Yeah, it's gay as hell. But please don't take it out on everyone else aswell.

Not quite. I've said my piece. I don't give a fuck anymore. Glen can do what he wants with it. It's no skin off my nose really. I can't remember the last time I had a question I needed an answer to. Just figured others could benefit from his knowledge the same way I did if he'd let them.

What you fail to realize is that Glen is a legend in his own mind and doesn't need your approval, pee-on! :spank:
